Smile Silly Question...

I'm expecting a large order of Copic Sketch markers... {woo hoo!}

Next week, I'm flying to Houston from CA...do you think it would be ok to take them with me and 'play' while we are flying?

The smell doesn't bother me, but in all honesty, it could bother the person next to me, and I certainly don't want to upset anyone. But, the thought of leaving them home alone is depressing! ;)

Thoughts?

you could take them and when you start playing with them ask the person next to you if that is bothering them. If they say 'yes, the smell gets to me' then put them up. Maybe the person on the way home wont' be bothered. I know i probably wouldn't be able to leave them home either.

Stephanie you can't deprive someone of seeing your art come into being! That's just mean!
I have been watching you since your sugar loaf days, if it wasn't for you I probably wouldn't even be making stuff!
Now you go pack those markers.

Sorry...I'm going the other way. I work with a lady who is severely allergic to the smell of markers. She can't even be in the room when a smelly marker is being used. So, the person beside you may not mind but someone in close vicinity may have a problem with it. Sorry! I do hope you have a good trip, though.

I agree with craftygirl04. Also the person sitting next to you may feel uncomfortable telling you the smell would bother them. If there is any smell to those markers at all, after using them a while they will get to everyone around you to some extent.

Also, are they allowed on the airplane? Might they be banned at the check-in gate (what ever it's called where they search your belongings you take on). If so, you would loose them for good if they say no.

Can you really do that kind of thing sitting at the elbow of someone without the chance of bothering them? Lots of things to consider. I've only flown 2 x and hated it. Doesn't the plane move too much to be steady to color neatly on paper?

I also think you should keep them capped on the plane. I used to polish my nails on the train commuting to work until one day I realized that the smell might bother others. Maybe the fact that no one was sitting near me was the hint.

Well, the Copic markers smell way less than nail polish! And they are not banned due to any security/safety issues (the air brush system w/ the pressurized cans of air probably is, though - depends on how astute your TSA rep is that day).

I know that Marianne from Copic mentioned that she often colors on planes. One thing to note if you go ahead and do this, the air pressure difference affects your markers. Once you get back on the ground, your marker can be re-pressurized by holding it horizontally and removing the caps from both ends. It will even itself back out, then. (And this is only an issue for those markers that you actually used on the plane.)

Stephanie, you're so sweet, I would just let your neighbors know that you're going to color, but would be happy to stop if it proves bothersome!
