Well I'm not sure which way to go here!! I currently have around 80 copics the "Ciaos" give or take, all like brand new because I haven't had a chance to really use them! I recently have been reading and researching the Triart markers. I like the idea of the fine tip which the Triarts have not to mention the price on purchasing the indvidual markers themselves! I have so much $$$ invested in the copics already and the only way to purchase the Triarts would be to sell my copics. A couple of questions in regards to the copics. I was just looking at Carpediem and looking at the replacement nibs. I guess I could by the fine or super fine replacement nib and use that verses the medium that is on the Ciaos. Also awhile back I was reading a post here and someone gave instructions on how to label one of the ends on the ciaos so you can see what color it is from the end.

my first markers were triarts. I prefer to purchase individual markers for blending combination, rather then packs put together, I think you still need additional markers to blend with that package deal. I also prefer copics, which I switched to right away, bacause most all the tutorials online are copics, and it great to see the colors used
when viewing cards, especially for future purchases. I haven't seen many triart tutorials, but then I'm not looking for them anymore.

I would say stick with your Copics for a little while...start practicing with them, try replacing the nibs if you are looking to write with your copics instead of color. I personally like the brush nibs on the ciao and found them easier to color with then the sketch markers when I first started out. Copics are amazing if you take the time to learn some techniques to use them. Go to youtube and watch some of Suzanne Deans videos...they are great and will give you a good idea of how to use your markers...to their best advantage. You can always buy a couple of triart individual markers and try them out at the same time if the price is so reasonable. I think they are both alcohol markers so you could probably use them with your copics. I have a copic faq page on my blog if you need basic info or color combo ideas... Since you have so many copics already...why not give them a fair try? :0)
I'd also say stick with your Copics. A while back I ordered some TriArt markers - I was influenced by the cheaper price and the 3 nibs. I wanted to see if the earth and skin tones were different than what I had in the Copic colors. Well, let me just say how disappointed I was in the TriArts. They just do not color as smoothly. The tips are harder, less flexible. I don't think they can measure up to the Copics at all, but that is just my opinion, of course.
Hello! Ladies! You are sooo right! After thinking this through I have decided to hang on to my copics! Like I said, I have hardly used them and I did take a class a long time ago at my LLS! I have a stamp with a few flowers on it, stamped it and proceeded to use my copics. I had trouble trying to use 2 shades in the same color family because the flowers are small! Any suggestions? This is where I think the fine tip nib would be better! So with that being said, my next question is... Can I take the med nib off and put a fine tip one on instead?
Thanks for asking this Alice because I am having the same issue - I love the colors offered by copic and even though I have taken classes and practice all the time, I just can't get the hang of it.

Definitely agree with using the copics instead. Also the best thing I like about the copics is the numbering system they use is a big help in selecting colors that go together. Other markers don't have a great numbering system that is nearly as obvious and their markers don't seem to blend together nearly as well. Copics cost more but also work well.

You didn't misunderstand, I misunderwrote, lol. What I meant was I think the brush nibs are fine for coloring, they don't need to be changed for a finer tip. In addition, I found the ciao easier to color with then the sketches when I first started out because they are round like any other marker I've ever used and lighter in my hand -easier to manuever.

Hey Connie- before you spend money swapping out the nibs try tip to tip coloring. take your lighter color marker and touch it to the tip of your darker color marker to absorb some of the darker color. Then color your small/tight areas in your stamped image with the light marker. The darker color will fade back to the original light color as you go and you will have a nice gradient of color and blended look.
Could anyone pass along the best sites for copic tutorials? I have several, went to a class and still can't get the hang of using them.

Go to youtube and search for Suzanne J Dean...her tutorials are great. If you like them and want more detailed instructions she offers online classes through her Color Me Creative Classroom
The price of the classes is about $45 dollars but well worth the price. She offers Begginer, Intermediate, and Advanced. I am taking the advanced class and I love it. Her video tutorials for the class are about a half hour long each and their are 14 of them for the class I am in. She has pdf handouts to go with the videos. You post your homework on the site and she gives you feedback on each image. She also makes herself available for chat sessions so you can ask questions. You have access to the class for a whole year.

Marianne Walker is the product specialist for Copic and blogs about using Copics. She has TONS of fantastic information on her blog. And, it's correct information about using the markers, which you don't always get from other tutorials.
