I had heard that Dick Blick has the best prices but I actually got a better deal at Hobby Lobby with the 40% off coupon.

Dick Blick is $5.24 for Sketch and you have to pay shipping unless they have a special. Currently they have a Shipping special for free shipping on $79. 15% off on $79

Oozak, where I have purchases all of my Copics, is $4.99 if you sign up for a Free membership and it is always free shipping on $50 . Plus Oozak ships the same day unless they are running a Super Duper sale and then they announce on the home page that shipping will be as fast as they can package the orders

Hobby Lobby would be $4.79 each with a 40% off coupon, but it would be a tad slow to buy them one at a time . Plus if you had to drive there every day to buy one market you need to include the cost of the gas to get there and home /

Just a FYI

I like Dick Blick and have ordered many other things from them . I have always been happy with their Customer Service. I just have not ordered my Copics from them.

Just my 2 worth

I have purchased my Copics mostly from 2 online stores - Oozak.com and carpediemstore.com. Right now CarpeDiemStore has Sketch markers on sale for $4.85 and you get free shipping on your $50 order the same as Oozak. I've always had good service from both companies and actually CDS always seems to have most of them in stock. I've gotten some from HL before but that was when I first started buying them and didn't know about the online stores.

I got my first Copics for Christmas and in ths last two weeks I've placed two orders

I did not order from Carpe Diem (4.85) because so many colors I wanted were out of stock. I guess that sale was popular!

I have the receipts right in front of me and here are the prices
Oozak 5.24
7 Kids College Fund 5.24
Hobby Lobby 5.06 after coupon.

I just logged into Oozak and mine shows $4.99 too.
Did you "register and log in" before you placed your order ?

Welcome aboard the Copic Bandwagon

I never had any art training in school so my colored pencil and water based marker work looked like a pre-schooler did it .

I fell in love with Copic markers when I found they could make my coloring look like I knew what I was doing LOL

With Hobby Lobby, I just print a bunch of coupons and bring my kids and my husband along to each make a purchase. It doesn't look suspicious at all!

This is weird, I ordered my COPIC X-Press It - Blending Card from 7 Kids for 8.99
X-PRESS IT BLENDING CARD in Bright White from Copic (24 sheets)
Oozak has it for 18.03 : Oozak.com | Paper | COPXPBC25 | COPIC X-Press It - Blending Card, 8.5"x11" 25 Sheets 250g/sm

Yes, I'm registered with Oozak now, but that is a HUGE price difference!!!!!!!

A lot of the paper crafting sites have discounts on things like that. You can get a pack of 25 sheets at Ellen Hutson for $9.00. Since I use it exclusively for all my card making since I always use my Copics, I buy it by the ream (125 sheets) for $45.

That looks like a mistake on Oozak's site. I will send Rusty an email to inquire if that is the correct price .

I called Rusty at Oozak and asked him about the price of the Copic X-Press it paper on his site .

He just got a shipment in and that is the new price.

It went up that much . He said the paper is made in the UK and for some reason it is shipped to Australia and then to the USA .

He said if people see the X-Press It paper ( 24 sheets) for $9 GRAB it !!

As soon as the owners of the other stores find out the new price their price will go up too

I had heard about a month or so ago that the price was going up. Didn't think it would be that much, but when I heard I went ahead and ordered a ream from Ellen Hutson.

Oh man, what a choice! I've never used the Copic paper but you all have convinced me. Should I go for the 25 sheets for $9 or the 125 for $45? Same price per sheet, but what if I buy the smaller package and love it and then the price doubles?!?!?

You WILL love it! That's why I bought the big ream when I already had almost a whole ream left from a previous purchase. It also depends on how much your stamp and color. I"m on a couple of DT's and do some extra cards here and there, so I'm using a lot of the Xpress It.

I just went ahead and bought the bigger package from Ellen Hutson. I got some bakers twine, too and used a coupon code for 10% off. With shipping - $50. Thanks for enabling me! xoxox

I just bought the Xpress It and the weight is 250 gsm equivalent to 90lb cover. It's thin like SU whisper White. I like the feel (very smooth) and the color is white.

I'm finding that it seems to bleed more than Cryogen White or SU Shimmery White and both are heavier weight and not white/white. I'm not sure I like the Xpress It better than Cryogen. I'm adjusting my coloring to allow more room for the color to bleed to the edge and if I keep having problems, I may return to Cryogen after the ream is gone.

I've tried many papers and so far Neenah seems to the best so far. I have to revisit the GinaK that I have and the PaperTrey. One of the smears when Im blending...it doesn't soak in as well I think...sort of sits on top.

Where do you get Cryogen? Never even heard of it

I buy it from Papertemptress. It has a light shimmer but not that noticeable. The ink soaks in but still gives plenty of time to blend.

Papertemptress has a Copic sample pack I think I'll order so I can test other papers.

Another thing I notices on the Xpress is that the blender pen does quite work the same as Cryogen. It seems to take longer to lighten the ink. I thought it wasn't working but after it dried for awhile it was what I expected.

I use the Xpress It Blending Card all the time. It is a lightweight, not like the GinaK that is real heavy. I've also used the Cryogen paper too which I like okay for special projects, but always go to the Xpress It. I have never had any problem with overbleeding with it.

I've never tried the Cryogen, but I have tried Gina K, and SU Whisper White. Both worked okay, but when Maggie told me about the Xpress It Blending Card, I got some of that and WoW! What a difference. I like it a lot. I had trouble with the others bleeding. I'm new to Copics so I figured good paper was a must for me.

I'm not an expert but I thought I'd show my first attempt with XPress and what I noticed:

Look at the arms of the last woman on the right - see how her arm is mottled - usually when I lighten a color with the blender pen I get a solid lightening on Cryogen but on Xpress it's not even

I had to add a darker shadow to hide the bleeding as the blender couldn't remove it all (see bottom of blue slipper) and under the couch arm on the right

I wanted the couch to look a bit faded but when applied the blender it kept bleeding to non purple areas so it's mottled

If you can see it, the couch skirt has little white dots where the color just won't soak into the paper

I'm going to keep working with it but the more I look the less I like it.

Ok I see what you mean...

I dunno...I keep thinking I should get some before the price hikes... just to try it.

I forgot to mention that I did try the Border and Riley paper for pen and maker. It does bleed through the paper underneath...

But it is very smooth and there are absolutely no streaks.. I found my test page

I'm going to practice on that too this weekend...it's been awhile..

I thought the instructors who teach the copic certification classes use the Xpress. Don't they?

I think they do now...but when the certified instructors first started they were using Neenah solar white and another brand but I can't remember it right now.

First of all, the blender marker is not a blender. You don't use it for blending your colors That's why you have various shades of colors for blending. All the blender does is "move" the color from one area to another area. So if you touch the blender where you've colored something, then it's going to move the color away from where your touching and than could lead to bleeding because you pushing the color away and it's got to go somewhere else.

For a faded look, start with a very light color and build up darker colors around the outside edges. You can also take a little piece of a towel or washcloth and dip it into the blender solution and lightly and carefully dab it onto your image so it will get a kind of faded look.

I'm aware that the blender pen is not a traditional blender and I'm using to lighten the coloring. The blender pen is not causing the bleeding. I'm aware that you color very close to line and then let the color bleed to the line depending on the paper choice.

The Copic instructor I had gave us different types of paper to try, but most of the work was done with Neenah.

I've used a towel, denim, and burlap with the blending solution and you get a nice texture, but not what I wanted.

I'm using the blender to lighten exactly the way the Copic instructor taught in the class. To get a faded look I start with the lightest color and move to the darkest and if I want to lighten where there is too much color I use the blender pen. I don't have this problem with Cryogen using the same technique so I keep thinking it's the paper.

I used to buy copics at oozak.. Rusty always tries to give me a low cost shipping because I'm in Canada and the free shipping are for the lucky US residents

Now with our dollar being so low the entire order would be almost 2/3 of the cost altogether with shipping because the of exchange rate. I would buy my final colors to complete my set if I could find free shipping to Canada *sigh* no luck

I'm in Ontario the closest US border for me would be Buffalo. Is about 1.5 Hours away maybe more. I think I would be spending more in gas there and back...Hmmm..

Exactly how do you use the airbrush system? I like the look of it, but I'm not sure if you airbrush the background first and then stamp or is it the other way around and if so, how do you protect your image from more color?

Question

Good question.

I would try YouTube and type in

How to use copic airbrush system
How to color with copic airbrush

Something like that.

Jennaz, you can use the airbrush system to create backgrounds easily. There are lots of ways to tackle it, but the most common is to stamp your image and then mask it off with a paper mask or with masking fluid. Then, just spray your background on, pull off the mask and reveal the image! Voila... easy peasy. There is a video tutorial showing how to create a background using the ABS HERE .

Hope that helps.

I am not sure if this is the correct place for this, if it isn't, tell me and I will move it to the appropriate posting spot.
I was given some Copic Sketch markers, A Copic Blender and a 2013 blank swatch book as an early V-day gift from a member of my CSF or "cancer survivor family" who only knew I liked alcohol markers and knew that I own a few sets of Promarkers. She knew I had a few of these markers too and preferred them over Promarkers. She had no idea on what to buy but the store she bought them out had decided not to sell single markers anymore (due to theft) and had marked these down 75%, so she bought 1 of each color they had left. In her note she wrote the following, "I had no idea what I was buying, but I am sure that you will know what to do with these. I hope I got you enough colors!"

She is a sweetie, isn't she.

I have read many times on this forum about having 3 colors in a series or of a certain number and I do not know what that means.
I do not need flesh tones as I do not do faces (at least not yet) all of my stamps of kids are back shots. They are walking away or in profile with hats (like Holly Hobby or Sunbonnet Sue) hiding the faces.
Hair! I do need to learn the proper colors for hair (especially red heads and auburns, lot's of Celtic in my bloodline), but not faces.
I am going to list the color numbers she gave me and I am hoping that the geniuses of Copics who post here will give me the proper matching numbers so I can get the 3 in a row or whatever it is that y'all talk about.
I would appreciate any help you can give.
Here are the numbers - if it matters, these are sketch markers.

Thanks for any and all help you can offer. I plan on getting online to Dick Blick Art Supply to buy the "missing" markers I will need to make these work, even if it takes me the next 3 paydays to buy them all!

I love MerriArtist! I love their store. I live near by and go in just to browse sometimes. If they don't have what you need they will try to find it!
