Hi Everybody,
Im just getting into Copics and just buying a few here and there when I have a certain card to make. I still need ALOT of practice. I am going to be making some 4th of July cards and would like to know what Blue and Red Sketch colors you would use for a patriotic card. I would like, the hightlight color and shade if you have it too. What do you do for white?? Do you put a little shading of grey or blue or something to make it stand out, for the Red, White and Blue part??
I guess I should look at IlikeMarkers to see if Marianne has anything about doing red, white, and blue. Still learning all this copic stuff
Thanks

I would recommend:

- B32 (light), B34 (mid-tone), B39 (truer darker navy "American" blue). If you want a lighter, brighter blue, I'd go with B29.
- R29 would be my choice for true "American" red. Ligher would be R27 or R24 and darker could be R39.
- White: Yes, you can use a little C1, B000 or BG000 to shade on the inside or outside of whatever you'd like to appear more white.

I hope that helps!

Here's a different topic... my LSS says they have 36 new colors, but I haven't been able to find a list of what the new colors are. Is this published anywhere? I've scoured the web and can't find it!

Marianne Walker indicated that some were coming from Japan....but have heard not a word more, and I think I read just about everything. Hope you'll post more if you find further information. We only have 300+ colors, and own a fraction of those....but we must be the first to know what new colors are coming!

I translated the Japanese website using Babel Fish - - It said the news of the start of the new color sale.

The preceding sale inside the comic market 75 meeting place of end of the last year passing and the test sale at the part store, because from June, it starts formality sale more and more simultaneously with the Bali male ink, we inform. Attendant upon that, 12 color sets of cool Gray's and worm Gray (12 gradations of the 00~10) it joins in [kopitsukusuketsuchi].

BV0000 Pale Thistle pail [shisuru] (the thistle) the
V0000 Rose Quartz rose quartz (the crimson crystal) the
RV0000 Evening Primrose evening primrose (the month seeing grass) the
R0000 Pink Beryl pink beryl (the pink beryl) the
YR0000 Pale Chiffon pail chiffon (it is thin the silk)
Y0000 Yellow Fluorite yellow [huroraito] (the yellow fluorite)
YG0000 Lily White [riri] white (the yellow green where the Shirayuri flower is faint) the
G0000 Crystal Opal crystal opal (the protein stone) the
BG0000 Snow Green snow green (scene color: The faint shadow where it had the green taste of the snow)
B0000 Pale Celestine pail [seresutein] (the heaven blue stone)
No.00 W00 Warm Gray No.00 worm Gray
C00 COOL Gray No.00 cool Gray No.00

Because of the super polar light color, when it is one time coating, the instant which was painted becomes a state where the paper has dampened at alcoholic content. When alcoholic content volatilizes, you can obtain the coloration of the feeling good polar light color.

I THINK that means that the super light colors are being released. Doesn't quite make 36 though. I count 12.

There are a couple of ways - sticky tac (which I am out of) and foam tape, but I wanted to get instructions on how to do it!

Check out Lauren Meader's video HERE. She shows you how to use the Ciaos in the airgun system. She's amazingly talented!

Hmm, I wonder when they'll show up here. I'll keep my eye out for them at our local store.

Your LSS might be getting colors that are new to them, not the new pale colors that are only available in Japan yet.
Sorry. We don't have a US release date yet Don't worry, we'll let you know as soon as they are available here.

There's one coming up in Durham, NC in June. If you are with a store or on a DT there is still room if you register ASAP. Otherwise, the class is full to general crafters.

Send me an email and I'll get you an application. [email protected]

I am just a "general crafter"

I will have to keep a look out for the next one. At least that will give me time to practice in the mean time!

Hi, everybody!
I was talking to Marianne and Kris, and since we know there are a LOT of people that will not be able to fit into the Durham Certification Class - I wanted to let you know that I have arranged to teach some Copic-centric classes in the evenings while I am in town, before Sunday's certification class:

on Thursday evening, June 25th at The Enchanted Cottage in Lewisville, NC. I will be teaching Copic 101 ( (where I cram as much of Cert into 2 little hours as possible).

On Friday evening, progressing to a fun airbrushing / altering acrylic album class, where we work with all of the different surfaces you can color with Copic.

Finally on Saturday evening, a non-related class with Glimmer Mist / Prima Card buffet fun.

Call the store to register!

That explains it. *blush* I thought for sure they said they were new Copic colors but I guess either they misspoke or I misunderstood. Thanks Marianne for the update - the pale colors sound cool!

FYI: Marianne just posted this certification class info on her blog yesterday for a class that is being held the day before the CHA trade show in Orlando:

Orlando, FL - Monday, July 27th

So e-mail for an application! Send a note to [email protected]

If that date doesn't work for you, I will be teaching another certification class, but in South Florida / Coconut Creek hosted by Cherry Blossom Studio on Sunday, August 30th. Registration won't be posted until sometime in June.

San Antonio was what I got from you by in March. I'm really hoping so and am looking forward to it. September/October - doesn't matter, I'll be there.

I have one in front of me on my desk. Speaking as an artist and not an employee of Copic, these things at first glance seem cool, but they are cheap when you actually try to use it.

The chisel is about the same, the brush is kinda stubby though, not like a super brush and where the two barrels fit together it leaves wet ink residue that would get all over your hands if you're not careful. The fine point just doesn't work, and mine has hardly been touched. It holds MUCH less ink. Also, the way it comes apart in the middle is annoying- it has a little lip where the two halves meet and it rubs my had funny as I work with it.

Granted, it doesn't smell bad like Chartpack or Prismacolors, and it is smaller to hold - more like a Ciao/Sketch hybrid (narrow but oval shaped barrel). I'm not impressed. It doesn't feel as high quality as a Chartpack, Prismacolor, Tria, and comes no where close to my beloved Copics

HI Marianne!

Thanks so much for your honest information. I saw those markers on a website when I was buying copics. My gf and I were curious so we bought ONE cause it wasnt that much at all. I agree with you, its a neat concept but I think the brush part is a little to flimsy. Our fine tip works now, but who knows for how long. I can see them have MUCH less ink in the barrels and the ink refills arent cheap. I have NO intentions on buying anymore..lol

Thanks again!!

Although I would love a Houston class, San Antonio would be wonderful! It is such a fun place to visit.
