Does anyone have a good recommendation on where to get Neenah paper in Canada? I've investigated a lot of leads from US, but with shipping and then customs it is just not good, even if their price is low before shipping etc. Any leads on Canadian suppliers, and even better, suppliers in BC, would be very useful.

Default Seattle Washington Area

Does anyone know of a store in the Seattle Washington area that carries the Copic Sketch markers? I will be traveling through the area this week and would love to be able to look at the colors in person. Thank You - Sharon

Daniel Smith has all the colors, though there are other stores as well. Check the copic website dealer locator for more stores.

If I were to pick only sets my first reaction would to be getting all the Ciao, since it has a great range of colors. My second choice would be to get the Sketch 72 papercrafting or the Sketch 72B set. The papercrafting sets have better color ranges for the general user, the other sets are geared for fine artists and have a lot of grays. I personally would choose a Sketch 72B because it has better skin colors and a good range of grays, since I draw a lot of stuff that I need those colors for.

Otherwise, start with a small set then try those colors, if you like them then build individuals from there to blend with.

I'd get the ciao sets manly cause you'd have more colors at first. But then it's preference and the extent to how you play on using your markers. Sketch would give you the most variety (various nibs, colors, & airbrushing), but if you're sure you won't use those, get the ciao. You can always add some sketch to your collection to fill in the colors you don't have.

And hi, everybody!

How well do these work on cork? Can you use them on cork? I have a project idea in my head but am wondering if it'd even work.

They may work (never tried before), but take in mind a couple things particular to Copic... Copic pigments won't show on dark surfaces, so if your cork surface is too dark the colors may be almost imposible to see. My guess is that cork will suck your ink like crazy, so be prepared for refills.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too. It wouldn't be a lot of coloring, just little details and I was thinking I'd have to go pretty dark with the colors too. Figures too that the site is down, to see if they have any info on it. Guess I'll give it a go and if it works I'll post it! If not, I'll post here to say not to try. LOL

Default My latest card colored with copics

Paper -Nana's Nursery Baby Boy and Stampin Up Lovely Lilac, Classic Solar Crest
Copic pens BG72, YG23, BV02, YR12, Y23 to match colors in the paper. In real life the purple towel on the front of the tub matches the purple paper.
I colored clear iridescent ribbon with the different copic pens and I colored rhinestones with the BG72 and added them to the bubbles.
I am giving the Nana's Nursery Album, paper, and added accessories as a baby present.

Question Copic Color Combos... need help!

Ladies, I'm really struggling. I have purchased some copics and want to purchase about 20 more. I won't be able to order again for quite some time so I want to order some that will round out what I already have. I really would like some more pinks, greens, blues and some neutrals but it's overwhelming me trying to figure out which ones! I know there's some really savvy copic ladies on this board and I would love your input. Here's the list of what I already have:

Smile To Nicole's Mom re sets

Carpe Diem has the 72 sets for $296.00. It looks like the price is 327.00 but when you add it to the cart it shows $296. I have purchased mine from them and you get free shipping right now when you purchase more than $80.00 worth.

I must tell you I started out with the small sets but now own all the colors - I have spent almost 20 years buying and trying soooooooo many coloring tools - with the copics I have finally found what I have been looking for.
Good Luck Darlene

It's so hard to choose, especially when you can't see the true color values online or in the printed color chart. These are colors I can't live without that you haven't mentioned. I should let you know that I like more muted, soft colors. I use a LOT of green and brown:

Wow what a difference in price as Amazons was 494.95.......That is two hundred dollars difference! Am I missing something? How can they charge two hundred dollars more????????????

So would you think that is a good selection to start with???

WOW! I am so glad to live here in Japan. Our local art store has them individually for 399Yen, which is just a little more than $4. I want to say the 72 pen sets are around 25000Yen or a bit more than $250. (I haven't looked too closely at those since I knew I'd never be buying that many at a time.) My kids are always disappointed when we take the train into town, as I "always" have to stop at the store to get a "stinky marker."

Cindy, you have some really good colors to start with! Here's what I would add, to give you some more shading possibilities and round out some of your color ranges:

B95, B97
BG10, BG13, BG18
E31, E33, E37; E13 & E25
G21, G85
YG11
R24; R81, R83, R85
YR12

Maybe W1 or C1 for some shading, but your N1 is good for that, too.

I hope that helps!

Scroll down to the Bright Tones, Jewel Tones, Earth Tones, Pastel Tones. Trendy Tones are the InColors. Hope that helps!

I know this has sort of been asked before, but I would really like some opinions.

Do you think it would be better to buy

-papercrafting set of 72 CIAOs for $216 that will ship in a month

or

-papercrafting set of 36 SKETCHes for $175 that can ship NOW

(I have not used copics before and have no idea whether I would use the air brush thingy in the future or not, but have no plans for using it at this point.)

Thank you so much for any helpful suggestions!!

personally I like the sketch, even though they are more expensive. I like the numbers on the caps-that isn't a big deal unless you really get into them (as I do many things--copics included); I like the oval feel in my hand when I'm using them, I like that they can be adaptable to the airbrush because eventually I try everything.....I'm also an instant gratification person.....waiting a month is way too long

I went for the sketch markers, too. I am very happy with them!

Is anyone going to the Copic certification class in Orlando?? I am and I'd love to meet some SCS'ers!

You're right Gale.......I hadn't thought to include that. Everyone is different and how they use their copics are also individual.....in how you use them, what you like to color, etc. I too, would not buy a set because you don't save that much and the colors were not what I would want at all.

Personally I like the shading gradiations. I prefer colors that are a couple numbers apart in certain shades because I like to do butterflies, flowers, etc............thus an initial investment that includes flesh tones, etc would not be for me--for example.

be sure to look at oozak.com if you're looking for great prices. I usually receive their orders 2 days after ordering! I've also heard that prices are good at carpe diem.com I like to go into my local Dick Blick store to look at the actual colors or treat myself....helps (read enables me) that Dick Blick is right next to Archivers in MN............

So would you think that is a good selection to start with???
Carpe Diem and other big stores prefer selling their Copics in big quantities at low profit. The more they sell, the more money they make. Amazon on the other hand sells their Copics at the MSRP, and since it's not living out of the bulk sales of Copics, they don't offer any discount from that MSRP.

thanks for the suggestions! I decided to go with the set of 36 sketch copics. It is the "papercrafting" set and looks like it has colors that will layer well together. I really wanted to start out with a set instead of trying to pick out colors. If I add more markers I will try to buy them individually at HL when they are on sale.

Thanks again!

Dell, the class is in Orlando. I think it is a the Rosen near the convention center. (I'll have to find and check my info for sure on that, though)
