Hi,

I've searched through here and realize there is a lot about paper I DONT know.

So I'm hoping for some feedback. I came accross some paper called:
Neenah Classic Solar White, which is listed as 80 lb.
Is this good with the copics? I see a lot of references to the 120 lb, which I'm guessing is more expensive. currently I use Staples 110 lb.

Have you used this Solar white, 80lb paper, and if so what is your experience?

I figured this was a good place to post this.

I was wandering around the Copic website looking for a store that sold Copics in my city (that wasn't Hobby Lobby) and found one. I looked on their website and the website is selling them for $3.99 a piece - and after talking to the lady at the store, she said that eventually they'll get the price adjusted, but they're selling for that price right now.

Here's the website: http://www.servicereproduction.com/d...ate&cateid=318

They don't say how much shipping is right off the bat - they bill you for it when it ships.

I am ordering some more from a LSS and this is what I already have

100, BG09, B29, B32, B02, BV08, V09, V06, RV10, RV04, R29, R35 Y06, Y11, YG05, YG67, G17, AND E00 and C3 and the blender.

I was wondering which others I should get. I have contemplated getting the base in each color class ie BG00 and then getting the darkest to work with shades but have nothing to really go on. Because they are so expensive looking for some advice as to which would be the next lets say 10 or 12 to get. I know this is hard for some to answer but I am really hoping you ladies know. Thanks for looking.

Right away I noticed your grey - I would get a C1 to go with that C3 which is a pretty strong color those are the ones I use the most however, if I am trying to color something black of course nothing is solid black because of shadows and light sources so you may want darker greys too.

If you color animals or hair you may want some E30's too.

I would get the 00 or 000 in each color family that you don't have (i.e. you already have E00) as that will be a nice light base for any start with plenty of color in them.

I forgot to put down that I have E29 and E 57 too. So another grey for shading shadows. Good to know. Would you recommend getting the darkest also to do layering or go with what I have. So if I bought a B00 then get the darkest B too the B99? I want to buy enough so I am not limited in my coloring options but I dont want to go overboard either because these are so expensive. One more quick question I thought of. I have been using CTMH white cardstock to color on and not sure of the weight. I have no reallly good paper source here and was wondering where a person could pick up some recommended paper in Canada. I live close to Calgary/Red Deer. Thanks again for patience with the newbie.

I wouldn't necessarily go with the darkest colors without the lighter ones - many of them are so color dense that they can look almost black so don't look right without a lighter color blended with them.

For example staying within the E30's they will go from light to dark within that hue and the go to another E hue with the E40's.

I know some people have gone on some of the blogs and looked at what they used and why and that is how they came up with their selections - I have to be honest I just jumped in completely on Ciao's so I try to recommend the colors I use most.

I would do an 00 or 000 in each color family and then an 02. You seem to have a lot of the darker colors in each family, i.e. R29, V09, BV08, etc.... I would get lighter to go with those, because that allows you to shade. I love the R22, 24, 29 combination.

I also like B32 with B34, and the B91, 93, 95 and 97 group (more of a denim shade).

If you want some greens, then my faves are G21, G24, G28. They blend really nicely and the G21 can be blended with some of the YG family very well as well.

For what its worth, I agree with Lainy67. I personally would focus on getting the lighter tones first. Many of the x9 and even x8 colors are so dark that can obscure stamp lines. I also think the G-20's are great versatlie greens.

I also often use YG-91, 93 and 95 for olive tones that can be blended with the greens (I would start with 91 because you can use it as a base or as a blender with other greens).

I didn't see anything in the YR family? You might want to fill that gap, maybe YR04 (or both YR-02 and YR-07 to blend together). I also use YR14 pretty often - its more of a caramel color and I've blended it with both the YR group and the E group. I also really like YR-21, I like to blend it with the Y group to tone them down a little. I also really like the E-30 group and use E-34 often.

OK... my suggestions are out of control - I guess I like them all huh?

But honestly I would mostly concentrate first on markers with a second number of 5 or less in the color families you use most often. Then maybe add C7 or N7 for "black" - and you already have a good red.

Just one marker addict's opinion................

haha ok so you guys have got me started. Well I figure mothers day is coming right. I just ordered another 13 for myself lol. But hey its motherdays right and the kids havent bought me anything and my husband is in the field. I had to go with Ciao's though. I couldnt justify spending another hundred and some dollars on sketchs this month. I have an assortment or ciao's and sketchs now. Wish the price point wasnt so different. Paying 7.12 a sketch and 3.80 per ciao. Where do you buy yours in Canada. I have seen Oozarks and have seen CarpeDiem in the states but i hate to ship from the states if I can get them in Canada.

Default Thank you!

I wanted to thank Lynn and all the ladies out here I received my first set of 72 copics and have been playing and the paper from Gina K is incredible and so is the memento ink! I would have never found it without you! I am an SU demo and love my matching markers but had an extra set of SU markers that I sold to be able to get my copics (ebay is so great sometimes) I am close to be able to posting a picture of a card I made just a little more practice but wanted to say thank you!

Does anyone have a list of Copic Markers that are similar to the Stampin' Up! markers? That would be really cool to have!

I'm certain there is one somewhere because I know there has been discussion of it on this thread however as I don't use SU I haven't had the need to search for it.

I would love to get the Copic Markers to match the SU colors but it comes up to have windows Excel and I don't have it.
Is there anyway someone can switch it over for me?

The sketch are the most popular and have 322 colors. The Ciao, cheaper version which has somewhat less ink, has 144 colors and is round. There are also the originals which are square and have one chisel tip and one small tip which is good for journaling and small places, like stems or dots. There is also a wide variety which is for artists who wish to cover a large area quickly. It doesn't have as many colors as sketch.

There are also refills, in all 322 colors. There are other pens and such in sets of 12 which are fine tipped. Other products as well. Best to go to Marianne Walker's blog or website.

I think a lot of people are mixing and matching I love my Ciao's and the variety of colors for the prices. It doesn't bother me to have Ciao's in some colors and Sketches in other colors that don't come in Ciao.

The inks are the same its just personal preference on ink (only one cc difference between Ciao and Sketch) and shape of the pen. The original has a different nib but the Ciao and Sketch both have the same nibs.

You should see some of the things you can do with the wide ones. One is put some colors on the tip of the wide ones by touching the sketch or ciao markers to it and it makes a really cool striped or plaid.

I like Sketch best because of the numbers on the end of the cap and the fact that they fit in the airbrush system.

What is the best way to store your Sketch markers? I just recently purchased several markers and joined a club. I would like some unique storage w/out breaking the bank. Any suggestions?

I have a thick, plastic pen display case that I got from somewhere. So far, that is working really well for me, and holds the pens so I can see what they are and are easy to get. It has about 16-20 cubbies in it so I can also keep the pens separated by color family too. The store where I get my pens has cases you can get depending on how many pens you want to store in each. Some small, some big.

I know I was being a little sarcastic, although that is my opinion I just didn't want to go into the whole explanation....but here's my reasons.

1. All colors available
2. Don't roll off your table
3. Names and numbers on both caps

Good luck choosing

Erin

As I have taken the Copic Certification Course in March, I found out that you can store them up-side-down, sideways, horizontal, vertical. As long as you replace the cap, you are good to go. They are very versatile and not prima donnas.

What I like about the sketch and the originals is that they do have the Letters/numbers and name of the color on the end caps. The Ciao have the letter/numbers on the side only. Still, they are the color of the ink inside, unless you have refilled them with another color ink.

I put numbers on the ends of my Ciaos it pretty easy with labels - One lady did hers with printed numbers on paper and then put a swipe of the marker on the white paper so she has a very quick reference for the exact color that marker is. And then a good old fashioned hole punch.

Storage.

I have the 72 marker storage x2 and put mine in order by families. Makes it so easy to find the color I am looking for.
