You need a copic blender -

The copic blender actually takes away color rather than "blends" its a bit of a misnomer in some ways.

Default Finally made a card!

OK, so after getting about 50 copics, I finally made a card! This was the Easter card I sent to my parents and DH's. I know it isn't much but I feel like I finally have enough colors to happy with coloring images.

Here is a color chart I colored in and marked down all of the "close enoughs" posted in another thread. It may help you decide which colors you like or which colors to get.

That's what the Prismacolor (marker) blender does, as well. I have both, they are the same in function.

but I don't know how it will work with Copic inks - in theory it maybe should work but for the cost of a blender and those smooth nibs it isn't worth it to me - and truthfully I love the tips of these markers they are so fantastic to work with.

Question--I am not sure if it is in this thread or one of the blogs I have read-- but someone explained which ink and embossin powder to use along with the Copics. I know there are some types that can be used and some that can not................so, can someone tell me what can be used?

Thanks, Barb

I have used it with the Copics and it does work the same way, so in a pinch you can sub! The one tip is wide like the Copic end, so for the blender it works fine. The other end is a stiffer marker tip than the brush tip, so to me it is actually easier to use for small areas (for "erasing").

Did you get an answer to this? There are quite a few inks that will work, but most have to be heat set. The Memento is the only one I'm aware of that does not have to be heat set or anything and will not smear. There were some occasions when I have seen it bleed, but I am not sure why...either it wasn't completely dry, or I went over it way too many times. But that was rare, at any rate....definitely the best ink overall.
The one ink that I've never had good luck with is SU Basic Black.
I'd say just try whatever you have, but then again I successfully used StaZon but they said the oils in it could clog your Copic tips, so just because the ink works doesn't mean you should use it, I guess?!
Pigment inks can be used if you heat emboss them with clear ep.
HTH!?

Are you thinking of Versafine Onyx Black ink with CLEAR embossing powder? Versafine makes other colors, too. There are probably other inks you can use too, but I usually use the Versafine.

The thing about the embossing powder is to use the CLEAR. For some reason, the clear is FINE with copics but any of the METALLIC embossing powders (like gold, silve, copper, etc.), get "eaten away" by some kind of reaction between the powder and the copics. I suppose some chemist could explain why that happens. I only know that it does happen.

Stick with CLEAR embossing powder and you will be fine.

Hello, I have just bought my first set of copics (small set 36 or something) and wanted to thank all that have posted on here. I believe I have read all 60 some pages. I love them and just completed my first two cards with them. The cards are way simple I just put it together and go back to coloring with the copics. All that to say thanks for all the information on here, and the answers to all the questions that are asked. Its a great resource for me to look at and get alot of my questions answered.

i went drove 3 1/2 hours to a stamp store in davenport, ia that sells copics. they had so many awesome stamps for coloring and the samples in the store were to die for! i really liked how they not only colored with copics, but highlighted with white gel pens. i could have spent hours just gawking over the samples.

Here are my first 2 cards using copics that I really like. I did these for a cupcake challenge by HSE to either use cupcakes or the colors. I had fun with these two.

Went to my very first copic class last night at one of the local craft stores. It cost $39 for the two hour session and included three copics. The owner just became copic certified and will be hold classes a couple times a month. It was a good group and fun.

How exciting for you Caterina. I can't wait until they have a class here in TX later this year. I'm so excited to go.

I never thought that these markers would appeal to me but I've been bitten after watching a lot of tutorials that everyone here has guided me to.

Does anyone know of a great on-line Canadian supplier of these or other card making supplies? It's the exchange rate and shipping from the USA to Canada that usually makes me think twice before hitting the "complete order" button.

It's going to take me a bit to read all the messages in this thread so that's why I thought I'd just go ahead & ask.

Try this site. They have copics and other stamping supplies including some of the cutest stamps - Bellas!

I am in Canada too and know what you mean about how hard it is to shop right now with the Cdn $ as it is. I just ordered some last week from Curry's art store, online, who is a Canadian company. I searched quotes all over the web and contacted the local craft stores and this was the best deal once foreign exchange and shipping etc. was factored in. However they don't have a lot of selection if you want to pick and choose which colours--I just got the premade sets...after reading online here I figured I'd eventually wind up buying most of them anyway, and it's a better deal to buy in a bundle like that. www.currys.com I think. They are in Ontario. i haven't received mine yet so can't attest to their getting the product here, however they were recommended to me from two different sources.

Just wanted to mention the fantastic customer service at Oozak. I place a small order of 6 markers. a minute or 2 after I submitted the order, Rusty from Oozak calls and asks if I would like the order sent 1st class postage instead of priority - it would save me a few dollars.

I've started up with Copics...on another thread, I asked you people to talk me out of buying them, but everyone who responded told me to for it, hence my negative bank statement this month! lol

Anyways, I'm just starting out, trying to figure out shading (that's always been my biggest challenge with any medium) and eagerly awaiting my Memento inkpad so I don't have to emboss everything anymore.

If you want to, I've posted my first efforts on my blog, http://dipstamping.blogspot.com.
Let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! One question I have is how do you get a realistic straw texture (for her sunbonnet)??

I wonder if making cross-hatching marks on the bonnet with your blender pen would give you some texture? I think it looks great. The folds in her apron are really done well.
