Has anyone else had trouble blending browns? I can't remember which exact markers I was using, but when I blended the dark brown with the light brown gray colors or orange colors suddenly emerged. It was like the light marker was separating out strange colors in the dark shade. What color combos do you use to shade Teddy bear colors? It could be because I was mixing colors-E55 and E31 for example, but this doesn't happen with other colors. I'm posting this again hoping someone knows what's happening and how to prevent it.

Default Carpe Diem

Hi all,
Has anyone ever dealt with Carpe Diem customer service? They accidentally had a refill listed on their sketch marker ordering page, so guess what I got instead of a sketch marker!!

Just wondered if anyone has dealt with them and how they were....
Going to call tomorrow.

Oh and they have sets of 36 Ciaos for $95...not sure what the going rate is on oozak since the price change since I only buy Sketch, but that looks pretty good!

So what do you think, Cher? Is the airbrush system shown on ritzcamera a good deal? Is it all we would need or do we need to buy a lot of "extras" with it?

I'd be interested in learning how to do that. The backgrounds on cards look so pretty!

Haha...funny you should ask...it's in my shopping cart now, and I am trying to decide what else I *Need* to get free shipping.

I guess it's all you need to start...I am not sure how long the air cans last though.

I see they added Sketch sets to Ritzcamera yesterday too!

Ok...I ordered it (the airbrush kit)...along with some spellbinders dies for $6-something that I had been looking for. I gave up on adding enough for free shipping because technically it's not FREE SHIPPING if you spend another $40 to get it. That's $40 shipping!!

I highly doubt I needed this...but I have said that many times before and use everything I have all the time...LOL

The Sketch set of 36 at Ritz is $143, which works out to under $4 per marker. The price is good, but does the set have what you experts consider a good variety of markers?

Here's the link: Sketch Set at Ritz Camera

It's a lot of Grays...if you plan to buy most anyway, get it and fill in colors later...if you intend to only have about 40 markers ever, I wouldn't get it.

Though neither matters yet...it's out of stock already...LOL

I should have known. I went to oozak with your handy SU match list and they were out of stock, too!

Maybe I should take it as a message that I shouldn't be buying Copics!

Not to hijack or anything, BUT the old style SU markers were a MUCH better quality than when the switched. Guess they cut back on the quality (and quite a bit IMHO) so they could keep the price the same.

when creative play stamps says, Some items will not ship immediately, does that mean some markers may not be in stock but they let us order and pay anyways? i would like to know if they are backordered... but maybe i'm misunderstanding. i'm in beginning stages of filling cart.

Yeah, if you don't unmark your items that are to be shipped immediately, they may charge you extra shipping for the part of your order that's not ready for shipment. You get the free shipping (purchase of $50+) if you wait for a "group" shipment.

It does have high shipping but they have a nice selection in stock ( a huge plus in my book!!) and if you buy more than few it still gets the markers to you at a reasonable price. I had great service there. We never complain about SU shipping and I think it's a bigger rip off.

I agree. I'm not crazy about their shipping (they never budge or take requests) and their customer service isn't great, but they have a great selection. You can always find them in stock. I personally can't complain about my SU! orders, I always get free shipping.

Other Copic sites with free shipping and low prices are:

www.merriartist.com (free shipping on $90, exc stock)

www.copicmarkers.com (free shipping on any 12 pc set - usually have custom sets in stock)

www.dickblick.com (check banner for shipping and coupons, sometimes these are the best deals)

Well, SU doesn't manufacture their own markers. TOMBO does. So if you are having a problem you need to tell someone who can do something about it. SU needs feedback if the qualiaty of a product is less than it used to be. SU has not changed who makes the markers so maybe TOMBO is cutting corners?

Default Carpe Diem

Hi all!
Just got my markers from Carpe Diem and I love them. They accidentally shipped me a refill bottle instead of one of my markers and they are replacing the marker for free and sending me a postage paid envie for the refill. So far I am having fun playing. Will post some things when I actually finish a card with what I've made.

I learned I probably should have picked a few more lighter colors though, however I didn't spend all I was going to, so now I can do that!

I'm a new Demo (today!) and I'm totally shocked at the S&H costs. I have an order that very well could hit $2000. That's $200 for S&H, as I understand it.

I finally understand why I need 6 different shades of grey but can someone tell me why I should get both shades of black?

Now see, I can not understand THAT at all!!! I think SU will make enough mainey off of your order that they can pay the S&H!!!

They were great when I dealt with them a few months ago. I had found out just after I ordered from them that another order I had was out of stock. I called them....they called back within an hour and added my two extra pens....saved me a lot of hassle and extra shipping.

Do you usually jump in head first and full steam ahead?

If so then go for the Sketch if it is in your budget. You will get more ink in each marker and will be able to utilize the blending techniques more quickly/simply since you can see the number on the cap. They work very simply with the airbrush system if you eventually go that route too. They also have the biggest color selection.

If you just want the experience but don't plan on getting consumed with them...and on a tight budget.... then the ciao is a great alternative. I understand they were designed for students, architecture, art, etc. that can't otherwise afford the pro style Also if you are concerned for young children getting into your crafting toys then the ciao have an added benny of childproof caps.

If you are new to Copics then I would suggest you join the marker club. The Caios are more affordable so I would just start with 1 set and see how you like them. Sketch markers have a lot more colors available.

Ciaos

Sketch

I chose Sketch for a number of reasons:

1> More ink to start with
2> Easily refillable
3> Color number and color is on the cap end
4> Oval so they can't roll away
5> Come in all 322 colors
6> Can use airbrush

If you are looking for a basic color selection to start I have a page on my blog about this:

The thing that astounds me is that the shipping never maxes out and stops at a flat rate, like it does on most other website stores. It doesn't even go to a lower rate at some point (it stays at 10% throughout). Come on, $200 for shipping a bunch small-medium items? Granted, it's a lot of small items, but still!

I'm excited about the stuff and I don't regret joining, but I shed a tear at all that money that could have gone toward more goodies. I KNOW it's not going to cost SU $200 to ship those items.

Ok, if I ever find a site that has the SU-compatible colors in stock, I'd like to get some Sketch markers. I've been keeping up on this thread and I know I need a couple markers near each other for each basic color.

So, if I use the SU-compatible chart, should I just pick 1-2 markers near each of those on the SU list?

BTW, the list I'm talking about is the one on Cher's blog.

Ok...if it were ME...and it WAS me...LOL...I would buy whatever you like as far as SU colors and a couple shades lighter.

Just jump in, buy a dozen and try them...you will quickly find what you NEED and don't need...for what you color. I really wouldn't start off with 50 markers in a first order just because once you try them you might decide the lighter colors are for you...or vice versa.
