Sherrie! I'm so excited to meet you, too! This will be the first time I have ever met anyone from SCS! And I will admit I'm quite nervous about the class itself. I'm afraid Marianne is going to have her hands full with me. I'm coloring challenged.

Default Thursday 19th - SCS folks

I don't have all the last names of SCS folks, but here's a list I've put together of those I know will be attending on the 19th.

Charlene
Sherrie Siemens
Marsha Carlsen
Karolyn Loncon
Susan Roberts
Louise
Jodi
Theresa

Sherrie and Theresa are carpooling from BC and will pick up Marsha and Karolyn in Marysville that morning to finish out the journey to SeaTac.

And remember to post about how the class was!

And what freebies you got.

Me too... Add me to that list in Chicago attending on the 17th. I'm so excited to have this opportunity to learn as much as I can about my favorite markers!

I just applied for that date too. The last time I corresponded with Marianne she said there were still spots available.

That's a good question. I've been accepted into the July 17th class, but haven't received anything about the exact location. I would assume that it will be in Rosemont, since it's held just prior to CHA beginning.

Marianne emailed me that it's being held at the Rosemont Convention Center (where CHA is) in Room 50.

Figures! I'm already signed up for the Milwaukee one and this one would be about 20 minutes closer! Oh well.

I was thinking it might be neat to somehow identify ourselves as SCS members so we would know who to look for, but I'm guessing it might be easier to assume everyone there is from SCS, and introduce anyone that might have slipped through the cracks to SCS, LOL!

I look forward to meeting all of you in just a few weeks!

I think your level of excitement will depend on how much you know about copics already. There were quite a few ladies there that had never used them, so it was VERY enlightening for them.

It was nice to try out each style; original, sketch & wide. I have the ciao's so it was cool to finally feel the difference in the pens. And also the airbrush which I had't tried before.

Marianne is super smart and makes the class fun. She is also an INCREDIBLE artist......just blown away with her drawings.

Personally I'm not sure if the class was right for me, I think I may have benefitted more from an art class. I worry that when I'm coloring I'm blending too many colors than I need to and was hoping to learn better ways to acheive the same look with less colors. Sometimes I blend 5 different pinks to color a dress and I wondered if it was necessary.

I am very glad I went though, and it was great to finally meet people IRL and see their lips move when they talk.

Bringing your own blender pen (to refill), and any stamped images you want to color were on the list. Marianne has stamped Lockhart images to practice on, but I am picky about my paper (PTI) so I stamped a few images to take. I'm glad I did because the Lockhart images are cute, but very small and I like coloring bigger images.

In the goodie bag you got one of each marker style,
original
sketch
ciao
wide
multi-liner
ink refill

Some of them came in 2 colors.

When I went to class in Eugene, I brought some white ribbon with me and we colored it with markers. I also brought some Making Memories acetate shapes, white Heidi Swapp flowers, and a Heidi Swapp mask to play with using the airbrush system. It was fun to see how it worked on/with materials other than paper.

My tablemate in class was using the airbrush to color blush on the cheeks of fabric birds. It was pretty cool.

Default Seattle Copic Class , June 19

I attended the Copic class in Seattle. Thursday, June 19th, and felt it very worthwhile and fun. Mariannes presentation was excellent as well as humorous. Her tutorials on blending were very helpful. it was good to see all the different types of markers and compare them. I especially liked the opportunity to use the airbrush . . . . .another thing on my wish list. And it was also nice to meet a few SCS members and other stampers. If any of you have a chance to take the class, do it!

Thanks for the info...great advice. I don't have problems getting good coverage with small images, but it's the larger images that I find more challenging with my Copics. I'm really looking forward to class on the 17th. I appreciate you giving us such great details!

Be sure to e-mail Marianne with your blending questions so she can help you. Those of you attending the classes, be sure to write down questions you have and what you would like her to show you.

I agree with others here, that if you have stamped images you like to color, take those so you can practice on them. Ribbon is FUN!! You all will get so much out of the class if you ask questions, ask Marianne to show you, and practice, practice, practice.... Marianne knows her stuff... coloring and blending, It's suprising what a blending pen can do (or erase...lol)

Have FUN girls!!!

Yes! Bring a list of questions. I like to keep the last 30-40 minutes open so you can throw anything at me. Some classes we get more into crazy stuff to do with the markers, other classes people have basic art questions. I used to teach art to kids and teenagers for years, so usually I can step you through artistic challenges.

If you have a specific stamped image/paper/colors that has been giving you problems please bring them! Even if you're coming to my drop-in free event on Thursday afternoon before summer CHA, I can work with you to get it to look right. At winter CHA some people from Sir Stampalot in the UK brought in pictures that had been giving them problems. We were able to find out what went wrong very quickly and they left happy.

Don't feel embarrassed if you think your question is too "basic" you'd be surprised how many other people in the room have the same question. In Seattle, we had time at the end each day for a brief talk about how to place your shadows with anything you're coloring, not just with Copics. Someday I'd love to teach a focused coloring class, since a lot of the Certification touches on fun techniques, but we don't get enough time to really sit down and pour over a complicated picture.

Also, I have taught the markers for so long that I have heard myself say it over and over tot he point that I forget if I told that day's class. Things I may skip over accidentally will hopefully be covered in my blog at some point. If you have a question and you don't think I've answered it yet, just ask! I don't make it to all the forums here on SCS that mention Copics, but I am here to be bugged. Send me a message and I'll help however I can

I found out today my application was accepted for 7/16, Chicago. I'm really excited not only about the class but to meet those of you who are also attending that day. And Marianne sounds like an awesome teacher!

Question:

One the copic website it states the following, so does that mean you ALL are one of the 3 described peoples they allow sign up?

"The Copic Certification sessions are open to any store owners, teachers, or designers in papercrafting, stamping, and scrapbooking. The class is limited to 30 attendees per day."

That is who the classes are open to first; then if there is room available she opens it up to everyone.

If you are interested there may be a waitlist that you can be on, you can find that out by emailing her.

I'm none of the above (in the crafting world) and I'm going. I emailed Marianne and she said the same as ebethneu posted. Email Copic and see if you can join us!

For classes that are not in super high demand I'm pretty flexible if you give me a good reason

The July 16th Chicago class and July 15th Milwaukee class will probably have room for about 5 people that don't fit into the category of Teacher, designer, or store owner. SU! Demos are Ok as well- you'll have a great time there. Some Lucky ducks already got in because they convinced me of their teaching ambitions they;re striving for after they take the class. So make your pleas really good and I'll really be opening it up after the 4th of July weekend to anyone.
