I wanting something that will cut through felt and chipboard. I have the Cricut and it won't cut felt or chipboard(tried it!). I also have the Cuddlebug but I haven't tried the dies because I only have embossing folders. So, do you know if the Cuddlebug dies will cut felt and chipboard? Or, any other gadget suggestions? I heard the Accu-Cut will cut through felt but, Goodness!! I really don't want to have to buy another die cutting machine. Thanks for your help!!!
;)
i don't know about felt and chipboard together... but i cut felt by itself with the CB, it can also cut chipboard as long as it's not too thick. when it comes to felt, try to find a stiffer piece to run through.... it cuts cleaner. the cricut expressions will cut through lightweight cardstock with the multicut feature, but i believe the cricut personal will not.
I have never tried, but I read often that the cuttlebug can cut through felt and chipboard and even thin metal. Ellen Hutson has loads of info on her blog about the cuttlebug there http://ellenhutson.typepad.com/ellen...bug/index.html.
If you're talking mechanical die cutters it's the dies rather than the machine that are the real issue. Cuttlebug dies will go through chipboard, wafer thin dies (like QK or Bosskut) will not. To get a computerised cutter that will go through chipboard you are looking at a BIG investment. I believe the Klick n Kut (I think I got the spelling right) does it and apparently the Cricut Expression will, too.
Cricut is releasing a deep blade that will cut through chipboard! I think in September???? I found out on a survey they sent me. How fun is that?!?! They are also releasing a make your own stamp and make your own embossing folder kit for the cricut! Can't wait!
I have the Wizard and using Cuttlebug dies I can cut through chipboard coasters. I have also run fabric through my Xyron and used the QuicKutz dies to cut through it. I'm guessing it would work with felt too. I would think it would work with your Cuttlebug, but someone else can probably tell you for sure. :-D
Ladies, the Cuttlebug will cut through many different types of materials.....fabric, craft foam, leather, chipboard (up to about a medium grade), thin metal sheets, paper, felt, compressed sponge, thin rubber to used to make rubber stamps, cork. Just about anything. I've personally have cut through all these materials with no problem at all. I've used them in my classes to show that the machine can be used for not only paper crafting but for home decor and wearable items also. Just follow the easy instructions included in the manual with your machine.
If you have the BIGkick or BigShot these machines will cut through the above items and even thicker grade of same. As the advertisement says.....cuts through anything you can cut with a regular pair of scissors. Again I can personally attest to this using my BIGkick (BigShot is the same thing just different manufacturer).
I have several cuttlebug alphas and have cut the 1/16" coasters that had a decorative paper adhered over the top with the dies with no problem at all. It really is all about the dies. The thin cut dies like the ones from Quikcuts, spellbinders and BossCuts won't go through chipboard. Their cutting blades aren't tall enough to reach through the thickness. Now if there is someone out there who has used the Spellbinders nesties and cut through coasters, I'd love to hear about it!
