Default Has anyone heard of a hot knife

somewhere I have heard there such a thing called a hot knife. It is like a little knife that actually heats up and helps cut the ez mount to apply to your rubber stamps. If anyone has any idea of what I am talking about and where to purchase I would really appreciate it.

Have a good evening and thank you in advance.

There are several different models on the market and they use craft knife blades. I purchased mine from JoAnn's and have used it to cut out more sheets of EZ Mount than I care to think about. I had been purchasing unmounted stamps, but really didn't want to use scissors to cut out the mount after doing the first few, then when I heard about using the hot knife, I immediately had to get it and it makes the job super simple. One hint when using it though is to apply baby powder or corn starch on the open areas with a small paint brush before cutting, so you don't get all stuck up with goo. HTH.

It is great for cutting thru EZ Mount, sure wish it could cut thru the rubber itself. I bought mine at M's with a coupon for about $12.

Yes - I used one years ago to cut styrofoam sheets when putting up my Christmas village displays. They were expensive back then. I never used it for anything but foam. This could be resurrested!

Ladies......Try either HotMarks or VersaMark. They both have a hot knife that you can put on the holder. Both can be purchased at either Michaels or AC Moore for about $30 each. Well worth the price since each include several different pieces to achieve different effects to both paper and wood crafting. BTW.......These items are NOT repeat NOT for use by children.

cherylannie.......In my area Michaels it's in the Woodworking section. They have also put the Hot Marks in the Paper Crafting section now, but that may not be the case in all their stores.

Here's a good explanation of a Walnut Hollow Hot Knife, and how to use it with EZ Mount.

http://www.sundayint.com/index.asp?P...S&Category=236

There are other hot knives (wood burning tools) out there, but the best one to use for trimming cushion heats to 950 degrees. Less expensive wood burning tools usually do not heat to that temp.

Walnut Hollow is the manufacturer of both the HotMarks and the Versa Mark. The hot knife is one of the interchangeable accessories for either one.

The most recent Scrapbooks Etc. magazine has a tutorial using a hot knife...evidently you can "draw" with it throught embossing powder to create free hand swirls and doodles on a page. (it's a different look than using a VersaMarker and EP) You can also use it to directly distress paper, chipboard, pictures, etc. I haven't played with one yet, but the "emboss-a-doodling" idea might make me pick one up with my next Jo's coupon.

I love my hot knife, it makes working with EZ Mount so much easier! I am paranoid when the kid is around me though, I make darn sure she knows where the cord is and to stay well away from it!

I use a hot knife that is a stencil cutter for quilting stencils. It works great. If you can't find one anywhere else look in a quilt store.
