Default SILHOUETTE SUBSCRIPTION OWNERS BEWARE

I just lost out on my remaining balance when my silhouette subscription expired while I was on vacation and I just want to warn other subscribers to silhouette images. USE UP YOUR BALANCE before your subscription runs out or renew before the due date. The terms of use does say that you will forfeit any remaining balance when the subscription expires, but I didn't remember that from reading it a year ago. I do feel the policy is unfair, as I did pay for the remaining balance, but I probably don't have a leg to stand on. Just wanted to warn others.

I just received this reply to my email, and on a holiday. I am impressed with Silhouette's honorable reaction but still find the policy unfair when you have paid your subscription up front for the time period.

"Thank you for your alert. We apologize for any confusion. According to your account, it appears that your subscription has now elapsed. The end date was 6/28/12. Please note that according to the subscription terms, subscription credits may only be used during the term of a current subscription. If you were to opt to renew or sign up for a new subscription within 30-days of your previous subscription ending, any remaining unused credit would be re-activated and be usable on your account within that additional 30-day window from the end of the previous subscription. Further information on subscriptions may be reviewed at https://www.silhouetteonlinestore.com/v2/terms.aspx.

In light of this misunderstanding in that you had not been aware of this policy, we have extended your subscription through the end of the week (7/7/12) so that you may use any remaining credit you may wish to use."

that is nice of Silhouette. My subscription runs out in a few days, and thankfully, they send me reminder emails every few days. If I had been out of town I am sure I would have forgotten.

And thank you for reminding me to spend the rest of my subscription!

I always forget their subscription service expires. Thank you for the heads up. I don't use the subscription service. I got two gift cards when I purchased my SD and my Cameo. I haven't even used up any of my gift card credits. I think I spent $5. I have over $30 left. I know their gift cards don't expire since my balance is about three years old now.

That was nice of them to extend it for you, but that policy is very unfair. I would never agree to a contract like that. It's a good reminder to read everything carefully before we agree to it. I'm not a lawyer, but I think that if you've paid for something, the company has to make good on it. And that contract doesn't seem to be legally enforceable. But, like I said, it's very possible that I'm wrong. I'm glad it worked out for you.

I love Silhouette. :-) That is wonderful that they are giving you extra time to use up your credits! I have always found the customer service to be great.

While I am not a huge fan of this particular policy, as consumers it is up to us to read the fine print and understand the contracts that we are signing.

There are other companies that could learn a great deal from Silhouette's customer service! :-)

I can't understand why you have to worry about paying a fee every month to Silhouette? I have the Ecips by Sizzix and users who have the Eclips machine don't have to pay a few of any kind. I bought the software Ecal and can cut
anything I want from the internet and even off my computer. Ecal software is the best. A lot of other companies have their machines and you have to use their software only. I do love my machine Eclips. I know that Sizzix has the best customer service out there too. If you say the word Sizzix, everyone knows the brand name and their dies and Vagabond and all the other products they put out there.

Silhouette users can cut from free designs on the web or design their own. The subscription is optional. Users can purchase designs without having a subscription, it's just much cheaper with a subscription.
