Colluzzle Challenged
Is the Colluzzle something that takes practice and getting used to using? I find myself getting discourraged when I use it. That little tiny blade makes it hard to direct and I never know how much pressure to use.
Any advice? Just practice? Bonnie |
Do you use the special mat underneath when you cut using your coluzzle?

I love my coluzzles. Make sure you have taken off both pieces of film, you should be able to see right through the template. Then make sure you are using the special coluzzles mat with it and the coluzzles knife, I have another swivel knife, and believe me, there is a difference. As for how much pressure, when using the mat/knife/template, you can't push too hard, when you first start, push the knife down, with the cutting edge facing out in the direction you are going to cut in, then push it into the card stock. Once into the card stock it should cut pretty easy. Follow the channel around till you get to the end of it. Let the knife do the moving, never force it to go where it is not wanting to go. Sometimes I have to lift up the knife, and make sure the blade is facing right, or put it down into the channel in a slightly different position. Once you have cut each channel, remove your template, and using very sharp pointy scissors cut between each channel where you have a tiny bit of paper. You will see what I mean.
I have to hold the template very firmly if I am cutting out something small and the paper is small also. It is harder to do like a small circle with a small piece of paper. When you get started try and start with larger pieces of card stock. Hope this helps, ask any more questions you have! |
Thank you for the great advice!
I did forget about the special mat. Thank goodness I found it! I had feared I had tossed it out when I was in a cleaning mood. I also had gotten a new template and no I didnt take the film off. Both of those have really made it work much better.
I purchased the flower the folds into a card. It is probably a bit to advanced for someone like me who has used the Coluzzle alot. I will keep practicing! Thanks Again Bonnnie |
I, too, am coluzzle challenged. I have found using it very frustrating. Thanks for posting so I know I'm not the only one. :)
I guess I'll have to practice too. But I prefer to punch. |
I just ordered the Coluzzle starter kit and a couple of different templates...so I hope it works well for me! I'm hoping to do my moms birthday cards with it!

It DOES take practice - don't push the knife too hard - let the channels guide it (kind of a strange concept!). Once you get used to it (practice a while on scraps and not your final project!) I'm sure you will love it and keep adding to your collection of templates! Happy practicing!

Just a tip: I was told to imagine that my forearm and wrist were in a cast, and like others said, don't "oversteer". Let the blade and the guides in the template do the work.
It helped. |
Great tip
I have had my forearm and writst in a cast! I will be able to imagine that quite well. Cant wait to try the Colluzzle again.
