Default cleaning a versamark pad???

Does anyone know if you can "clean" a Versamark pad? Mine is stained and kinda gunky and before I get a new one I figured I'd ask...

The info below was in a thread about getting glitter off a pad:
I got most of the glitter off of one of mine by lightly pressing duct tape onto the pad. You can only press once before moving onto a new piece of tape, but it lifted most of the glitter particles. Worth a try!

And another idea was to use a piece of masking tape. The actual greyness on the versaMark pad really doesn't matter, but I have found that adding some refill versaMark also helps.

I also wiped the surface with a scrap of clean cotton cloth, such as from an old t-shirt. I think something to that effect is even part of SU's recommendation for cleaning up an icky pad. I just throw the scrap away when I'm done.

it is actually tinting things pink! I must have used a dirty (gasp) stamp last time on it! I'll try these tips though before I buy a new one! Thanks!

After you put the embossing powder on and use the heat gun, does the image still look pink? Sometimes I have notices the stamped versamark image shows a hue but after finishing the embossing technique, I don't notice anything.

Let me know if you can get the pink out. At my last workshop somebody used a stamp that had previously been using a red ink in my Versamark. It looks pretty bad now.

Default Removing glitter

Haven't tried it - but I wonder if scraping the pad with a Pampered Chef scraper, or a credit card would remove some. Might have to loosen it with a toothbrush. Just don't scrape hard enough to damage the smooth foam surface.

I cleaned up ink from mine by pressing it face down into absorbant fabric numerous times or blotting spots with absorbant fabric, and then adding more Versa-Mark fluid.

I don't mean to hijack but....OOOH, another use for my PC scraper. I already use it for folding my cardstock.

I actually have a versamark pad that IS stained, on purpose. Sometimes I use a stamp that I have stamped in a color, then on the versamark pad for the purposes of embossing in color. This is as opposed to using a craft ink pad. then I just keep THAT pad for that purpose and use my clean one when I don't want any color.

I find if you stamp the versamark pad first then the coloured ink pad embossing still works and your versamark stays ink free Mind you mine is still yellow and icky looking

i do the same as janice versamark then ink
and if you cant get the versamark pad clean you can always use it to condition your stamps ...i find if you let a stained stamp sit on a versamark pad for awhile then let it sit out for awhile with the versamark on it before stamping it off the stains come off ,thats how mine got icky

I tried to clean mine and just ended up buying a 2nd one. So now I have 2 .. one for stamping only, the dirty one I use for messy projects.

Haha. I have 3 I think, and I hate to say it, but none of them are pristine! If I could only be so organized as to always know where they are, maybe I could use your method. It's a great idea in theory, and I actually started out this way, but... oh well!

Mine has had a giraffe on it for years thanks to my stamping son! But not enough to change the color, I also thought something like a credit card for getting rid of the glitter but boys don't do glitter so that has not happened here yet!

My six year old got black ink all over mine. I pressed it into paper towels to remove most of the ink then rinsed it out with plain water, let it dry and re-inked it. It still has an off color look but stamps like it's supposed to. When you reink be sure to have a gift card or plastic knife to spread the ink it's really thick.

Hey me too! I just found a new technique with my tinted versamark pad. I love it for sheer embossing ( I did my business cards, so the letters would show through but the texture was fun.) I stamped a turquoise tinted versamark & then went over it with copper embossing powder. Then I just scraped away some of the e.p. with my scissors. It ended up looking like verdigris kind of neat. :0)

To clean yours though, You could probably stamp it onto a towel repeatedly and that would remove a lot of the colour (though you'd have to re-ink it a lot. Hope you get it clean :0)

You've heard of "there's always to sides to a piece of paper" saying right? well, there's two sides to the versamark pad too..... if you can't stand it any longer you could carefully pull the sponge pad off..... CAREFULLY so as not too tear it.
Flip it! Restick it on with strong glue dots or DS sticky tape. Reink if needed and you'll have a new ink pad just like that!
