I wanted to make some cards with circles cut out of the paper but farther in than a hand punch would go. Off to the store I go! I saw the EK Success Circle Scissor kit so I got it with a glass cutting board, and was happy as a clam. When I tried using it, I quickly realized that you can only use this system on large sheets of paper, otherwise the paper moves and you have very wavy lined messy openings that do not resemble circles at all. Frustrated, I set it aside and used a super sharp exacto knife blade to cut my circles. They were so - so, not perfect.
A few days later, I was visiting my parents and brought my newly made cards to show my mom. She noticed the imperfectly cut circles and said I needed a cutter. Then, she trotted off into her craft room and pulled out the Fiskars Circle Cutter that she had bought. "This is what you need to use - people want to see perfectly cut circles. Here you can have it." I thanked her profusely and brought it home with projects in mind!
I just tried it out and what a great product! It works so well and the cut is nice and crisp. Way better than that other thing I got, although it might be great for big sheets that need big circles cut out of it. We'll see! What have you all tried and liked or didn't like?

I still swear by the CM products! Although they are basically for for scrapbooking, they compliment SU/Card making very well. I have the circles and ovals for a wide selection of sizes.
I've tried almost every cutter out there. The only one that is EASY to use out of the gate with great results is the CM (Creative Memories) cutters. Fiskars shape cutter is what I use most--it didn't take much time to get used to. Coluzzle and EK success cutters also take practice to use, yet all make nice cuts once you get the hang of it.
With regard to your EK success paper issue. You should be able to tape the smaller sheets down with removeable tape, while cutting. I use the scotch (blue box) removeable tape.
CM or Coluzzle...both work well for me. Mainly I use the coluzzle but sometimes I need a larger circle than it'll cut. In a pinch (for the tops of paint cans) I've found a bowl that I trace around and cut out. :-)
I just bought the EK CircleScissor that you said you didn't like! LOL If I need to cut smaller circles I use some cheap double-stick tape that will hold it in place on the cutting mat but I can still remove it easily. Just thought I'd mention it.
I was using my circle cutter and got so frustrated last night my DH had to step in to help me out! My paper was only cut around part of the circle and I had to use an exacto knife to cut through the rest of it. This, of course, makes the circle's edge not smooth like it should be. I think my desk is not level or something. I was so mad!!! Should I use a glass cutting mat?

I liked it when I had it, but must admit I prefer the Coluzzle system best overall for cutting shapes--it does take a slight bit of learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, that thing ROCKS!! I can't get enough of their cool templates!

The EK Success Circle Scissor - I don't know why they even include the self-healing mat in the with this because it works so much better with a glass mat. Glass mat, tape the paper down, works like a dream.
I like my Coluzzle better; it's easier to see exactly where the cut is going to fall, but I really like having just a 1/8 inch border sometimes, and until I buy my companion circle template, the circle scissor is what I need for it.
I also have the Fiskars circle cutter; I rarely use it. Of the three, it's the one I like the least.
Love my Coluzzle. Oddly enough I misplaced it - think I actually threw it out by mistake. I had to go back to using my Making Memories cutter and I like it as well but prefer the Coluzzle I like it because you can actually see what size your circle will be before cutting it.

I don't like not seeing where the center of the circle is landing. I think the glass mat and maybe a new blade will help me out. I keep hearing rave reviews of the Coluzzle and might have to take the plunge. I like cut circles on stuff and want to stay sane while making them!
Thanks for the input.

I'm a Coluzzle ADDICT. Quite pathetic, really. I just think it's an AWESOME tool and I *love* the variety of options they are always coming out with in new designs. The nested templates so ROCK!!!
If you can't afford a die cutting machine, it is a GREAT alternative--I love how easy it is to store, transport, and use. And the price? Well, all things considered, it's been the perfect solution for me personally.

Where do you get these Coluzzle products?

Hands down, Creative Memories makes the BEST circle cutter. I LOVE that thing! I bought it years ago with the circle and oval templates and that baby gets used a lot! For other shapes, I do love my Coluzzle. As Julie said, they have awesome templates, great prices and its portability can't be beat.
I just bought from creativeexpress.com - but I think they had a sale last week so prices were especially good. I did get the items in about 4 days. Otherwise Joann's or Michael's coupons might work. I just tried the Coluzzle oval and I think it is going to work for me. Iam a bit challenged when it comes to cutting.

I broke down and bought a glass mat. That did seem to help. My DH thought it would dull the knife blade faster but if it makes a clean cut, then it is worth going through a few extra blades.
