Default Chipboard question

I read that Office Max sells chipboard so I went there to buy some.
What they said was "chipboard" is just gray cardboard like the back of a legal pad
Are they right? Is Chipboard really just cardboard?
Thanks
Barbara

Chipboard is like really stiff cardboard. Some people even use cereal boxes to cut their own shapes, but chipboard is stiffer than that.

This is a bit stiffer than a cereal box. I thought it would be like a thin balsa wood or veneer
Before the man at Office Max went to get it for me I told him I will need to cut it in half. What should I use to cut it a small coping saw? He just gave me a strange look.
Now I know why
Thanks!!

Actually, cereal boxes ARE made of chipboard. It's just really thin. Chipboard comes in thicknesses from 1/32" thick all the way to 1/8" thick, and is used for everything from food packaging to the cores of three-ring binder covers.

I have used cereal boxes, the heavy piece from the SU! DSP packs, etc. If they are too thin, I just glue one or more pieces together to get the thickness I need.
