Well I realized the the day that I'm running low on white cardstock. I've also come to the realization that the cardstock I've been using isn't the greatest for embossing either, particularly embossing in black. It always seems to want to soak into the paper even if I only try to apply a little heat.
Anyone got any ideas as to what is the best brand of cardstock for embossing? Paper that doesn't absorb ink as quickly?
Gee, I've never had this problem, even with cheaper paper. Is it possible your embossing powder is old? I've had your problem happen with "expired" powder.
I primarily use Georgia Pacific paper, sometimes Papertrey Ink with good results.
the main black embossing powder I use is rather old, but I also tried the newer black powder I bought from Micheals, the Stampendous brand I believe it is. It didn't work at all, it seemed very clingy to start with of course and then it pretty much didn't melt but just soaked into the paper. I think I'll probably end up throwing that particular brand in the trash.
I've had this happen, but it is usually because I have heated it too long with my heat gun too close. Maybe try keeping the heat gun a a distance, and constantly moving it around. Then stop as soon as the powder starts to change.
I also had this happen once when I was first starting out and used some no-name cheap embossing ink. I stick with my
Versamark now.
