I was surprised to find Ranger was retiring their Adirondack line of inks. Have I been sleeping?!? I think I will need to decide if I should purchase all of the reinkers for the pads I own or use them until they dry up and throw the pads. What do you plan to do?
Do you remember where you read that? I'm not finding anything on their site. They do have a new line of dye and pigment inks, which are new and improved...
I've used the Adirondack line for years, but actually use the reinkers more (for watercoloring and backgrounds) than I use the pads. I love the earthy tones in that line.
Ohhh goodness I love the Adirondacks for working on glossy cardstock and acetate. Now i will need to stock up, more expensive over here too.
Is it these that are getting retired or the Distress Inks? I know they are bring out 12 new colours in the Distress Inks.
Not at all happy to read this either, I did wonder if they might start swapping things out when I saw they were releasing new colours. I have only ever found ONE supplier in the UK for re-inkers, I've just e-mailed her to ask if she can order me the re-inkers I'm missing!
I know I can get them easily from the US, but that means I'd get charged import duty- but if I have to, I'll have to. I use them a lot, like lylacfey says, with my Stampscapes stamps. Marvy, which I also use, also discontinued their pads last year or so- so this is not good at all.
Thanks for checking on this, Dini! I saw much of the same information online, as others have said. Perhaps the site I saw listing the ink as "retiring" was only retiring it from their line of products?? The new inks that Ranger is introducing are beautiful but also very bright and modern, not the muted and vintage colors you can get in Adirondack. When I first saw the new ink packages I thought maybe they were getting a facelift to make it easier to distinguish the dye inks from the pigment inks. I seem to have a mental block in this area and have always struggled with telling them apart!
Yes, all Adirondack products, with the exception of Alcohol Ink, are being discontinued. However, acrylic paint dabbers and dye/pigment ink pads are being replaced with the Ranger Brand.
Total nightmare for designers who submit for publication where current product is a must Unless "replace" means the same colours will be available (and we can "pass off" the old as though it's the new) it could mean buying totally new inks even though existing pads have plenty of life :(
Adirondack Espresso is an absolute staple for me, I'll be gutted if it goes.
To anyone in the UK,wanting to get hold of re-inkers, Countryview Crafts has a few, and I found about 20 colours on Amazon.co.uk. Both with free postage. Looking at the new range they are launching, some of the colours released so far are somewhat similar to many of the 'Brights', so you may be Ok Joanne For Instance, Wild Orchid (new) looks almost identical to Purple Twilight (old), some do seem completely new, like the Classic Cherry- a much brighter Red than anything in the old line.

It's to be hoped there are more colours and fast! There are only 12 dye inks on that page. At the moment I own close to 30 Adirondack dye inks and I don't have them all by any means so 12 barely scratches the surface of replacing the current line.
I agree Joanne, it does seem very few for a new line launch, and as I said, they all seem to be 'brights'. You'd have thought they would have mixed it up a bit- a few of each section? I do have all the Adirondacks, I use them a lot for the scenics I love, and I'm trying now to make sure I have a re-inker for each one. They haven't needed re-inking too often, to be fair to them,so it should keep me going a while. I've seen your work in Craft Stamper, so can understand exactly where you are coming from about needing current product.
Aack, I love, love, love the Current, Stream, Cranberry, etc., and will be heartbroken if they go away. I don't think I'm going to buy SU anymore because my ColorBox chalk inks with those spongy pads seem be going wonky on me. I wonder if the new SU pads will do the same down the line.

Dini- Thanks for sharing the e-mail with us. That is very sad those lovely inks are being discontinued. I always thought those inks would be a staple in our stamping arsenal.
I wonder if it's just a facelift to the product line? I have an email in to see if I can get more info.
I'm betting this is true. They announce they're discontinuing, which immediately targets consumers who like tried and true and pumps up sales to them. But watch: these gorgeous colors will be back under a different brand with new names --another way of ramping up sales targeting consumers who love buying what's new. Clever marketing to get both categories of consumers. Ranger is unbeatable when it comes to marketing.
You know, it wouldn't be the first time for that line either - I have (really old) reinkers from a line called Sea Brights that had all beachy names, and those were brought into the Adirondack line with new names as Adirondack Brights (Popsicle Orange became Sunset Orange, Bikini Pink became Raspberry, Beach Ball Yellow became Sunshine Yellow, etc).

Sadly it doesn't look that way. I e-mailed too, specifically asking if they plan to expand the colour range and on what timescale if so. They said:
Quote:
We do not have plans of expanding the new Ranger line of Dye Ink Pads beyond 12 colors at this time.
Adirondack Dye and Pigment Ink Pads and Reinkers will be available while supplies last. Once stock has been depleted, product will no longer be available.
I know their Archival line has been expanding with the Wendy Vecchi colours, and there's lots of variety in the Distress line (and I'm assuming that the colours being released one per month this year will become part of the permanent range as did the colours that were released as "limited edition" sets) so maybe they're just concentrating their energies elsewhere. It's a shame though, Adirondacks always performed well for me.
