I just moved and I'm looking to get a new craft table. Of course I'd like to keep it as low cost as I can but I'd like to upgrade from the folding card table I was using!
So I'd love to know what you use! What do you like about it?
I bought a 6 foot countertop piece at Home Depot and have it laying on two base cabinets also purchased at Home Depot. It isn't really long enough as I have to have a cutting table and a die cut and general lay the mess on table as well. Some day I hope to have a craft room where I can have an L shaped work area with more close at hand storage but for now, this works.

If you look in my gallery you will see better than I can explain. If you have someone to help you (i have back problems) I made a frame with 2x4s and put a piece of partical board then covered it with press board..all of this you can get at lowes etc and they will cut it to size for you too. I liked the 4x8 sheet goods cause then I can have a really large work space and room to store the things I like to have infront of me. It would work well 2 on file cabinets or saw horses....get wood ones, paint them a color and you are ready to go. I would rather spend the money on craft supplies than a desk to work at.
I have something similar to what c-mouse said. My table top is a large piece of wood, maybe 7' or more wide. It was an old built-in desktop for my work when we bought a new building. My hubby cut it down to size and we added some molding to it. I got the base cabinets from Ikea. Love it!
I love my table! I wanted one with a drop-leaf on one end so that I could expand when I have a big project going on. (I would love the room to have a permanent cutting area, etc. but that's not going to happen in my current craft room!) This particular table is from Ikea - I know that a lot of folks here on SCS have found that place to be almost a mecca for great craft room furniture and organization tools - but you could get a smaller table with a drop-leaf at almost any of the big furniture stores I would think.
I have a 6 ft. table I bought at Costco. It is similar to the picture shown by KANDCATS. I don't remember the price, but what I love about it, is that it is adjustable. I raised it up as tall as possible. It is great, I don't have to lean over to work at it and my back doesn't hurt.
My main stamping area is actually a metal 6' long table I bought from Sams club, under it I have eight 12"X12" drawers under (four drawers per unit) then I have a 6 foot folding type table for guests and a second 6 foot table if I need it, I store that one in the closet.
I've got a counter top remnant also (picture in my gallery I think) but it was free for me and that doesn't help you. I also have those long white plastic tables that I use for stamp camps and scrapbooking when I need more room to spread out. They are great and I have no problems other than one of mine actually folds which makes it very transportable, but also has a seam right down the center that you DON'T want to stamp on. HTH!
I use an oak table I got for around $100. I like it is sturdy and solid and does have any "give". If we had lived near an IKEA I would have gone with one of their units where you pick the table top and then you pick the legs separately for around $25-$30.
When our neighbors moved, they put out a wooden drafting table to be thrown away. I asked, they said yes and it is the best...but not for punching...for that I have a MDF shelf on top of 2 kitchen cabinets I bought for $15 at Home Depot...special order and no one picked them up!
I use and old wood table that's been in the family for YEARS! It started out as our dining table and now it's my "desk" LOL! I love it! I one day wish to have a room like the one pictured in a past post! Gorgeous!
I'm currently working at my sewing machine table in my sewing/computer/needlework stash room! It's a long table with large drawers on one side, the machine fits in the other end flat-bed style. I do sewing finish work and other assorted crafts there.
My dad's old wood 50's era desk is in storage and I'm planning to drag that out and see if that will work for a stamp/crafting area.
My table is a door...a flat wood door I bought at a Habitat for Humanity Home store - they happened to have a deep cabinet that was the perfect height for it to rest on - so my husband added 2x4 legs to the other side.
the good thing was it had a hole for the doorknob - perfect place for me to drop my cords for my Ott-light and anything else I might want to plug up so the cords stay out of my way

Thanks, hon! My desk wasn't terribly expensive. The glass top is about $80 at Ikea and each of the legs was $40, also at Ikea. But they sell plenty of other, cheaper legs if you only like the top.
I like the fact that with a little windex and a paper towel and it looks good as new. Super important as my 9, 6, and 3 yos like to "stamp" with mom. You can imagine how neatly they do that, LOL. ;)
I started out with an eight foot span of counter (bought in two 4' sections to fit in car). I used three file cabinets underneath for legs. It created two work stations sorta.
Only problem with that was it is not very deep and with computer, printer, cricut, jukebox, it did not leave me much area to actually work on. Counter Work Area Left and Counter Work Area Right
In came an old table (had three in garage) that was bought at Cosco years ago (probably close to 20 years ago). I works very nice. I thought about one of the plastic ones, but I like a really hard surface that doesn't give when pressing down.
I have just added this area, with another 4' span of counter, a file cabinet, and I cut down the poles of an old plastic shelving unit to make my sewing station. There is a ton of drawers with all the file cabinets. I love lots of storage.
Nice part about this, is that all the work space cost me under $300 and I got to use stuff that was being stored in attic and garage. DH was very pleased that I didn't have to go out and spend more, I'm very pleased because I did go out and spend more, but got to spend on the real goodies

Years ago I bought two adjustable wooden trestles, and a hollow core panel that fits on top of them, at Ikea. It is reasonably sturdy and I like that I can move the table without assistance.

The desk is a great surface with a light box on the right side. The trestle legs allow for storage plus they enable the desk to tilt (my preference for coloring) or to raise up /down. I have been thrilled with it for the past year now.
