Red face

Hey ladies... I'm in a *bind* (no pun intended... well, okay maybe a little). I NEED more owires RIGHT now... in the middle of making party favors for my son's b'day party on Saturday (little notebooks). I ran out. I only had 5/8" ones... don't really care what size. The books are not very big. Anyone know where I can get them at a real store (not online). I have to get them tomorrow! PLEASE HELP!

TIA!

Geeta, check all the local stores around you. My local craft store is getting these next month but we are in a stupid town so I bet if you call around Austin you should be able to find some.
GOOD LUCK!

Nothing like waking up to a good morning laugh!! Too funny!

I got my BIA last week and love it! I even let my 2 & 4 yr old boys punch their own coaster books. Is that kind of me or what?? Letting my kids touch my stuff!! LOL!!

I bought mine from Bonnie's Best (thanks to amy sings) and had it shipped the same day I ordered...excellent service!! I ended up with two of those dvds...I could hear my husband snickering in the other room. I would have called him on it BUT he bought it for me! Love that man!

I don't know what possessed me last night. I'm wanting to do some little number and letter books for my girls for summer 'school' (they're only 2 and 4). I am the queen of perfectionism and having everything look 'just so'. I immediately thought of the Bind-it-all. I didn't see how I'd use it before, as I'm not a scrapper (yet) and mainly make cards with my stamping addiction. However, I am now impatiently waiting for my BIA to arrive. Such an impulse purchase, but one I'm sure my girls and I will enjoy! At least, I'd better...it's the most I've ever spent on a tool. Can't wait!!!

Oh, I think you'll love it! I got a call yesterday from my sister-in-law who wanted to know if I could put together a scrapbook for our niece, who is graduating tomorrow. Now, I am *not* a scrapper--just a cardmaker. But I put together the cutest little 6x6 *very* simple scrapbook and bound it with my BIA. Since I already have a boatload of cardstock and designer papers, it seemed silly to spend money on a store-bought book!

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. Besides the little books for my girls, I really ought to scrapbook at least the first year of my kids' lives. I also have great plans to make some sketch books and color challenge books too using my BIA...oh please come quickly!

I added some bind it all books to my photo gallery and as soon I get back from vacation, I am going to start working on all these ideas I keep making notes on...I have coasters, die cut tags and cd's already lined up, waiting to be punched, proded and otherwise, turned into books...

I got mine yesterday! Woohoo!! Can't wait to try it out... Thanks for all the help and advice, ladies!

Oh, and I got it from Eclectic Paperie, and no DVD. Anyone got an extra they'd like to share? I'm very much a visual learner, and always up for a good laugh anyway!

OK, I am intrigued by the BIA, but have to ask a reaaaalllly stupid question....what do you use for the covers of the books? Chip board? And, second stupid question, how do you cut the chip board? I have never even seen chip board, just heard about it and now I just "gotta have" the BIA. Thought originally I would use it to bind my SU catalog, but now after reading all of this all I want to do is make little books!! Help!

I bought my chipboard at Hobby Lobby in the artist section. I think it was 10 sheets (8-1/2 x 11) for $3.99 or $4.99 -- and it was on sale for 25% off at the time. I cut it with my office-quality guillotine paper cutter. My Cutterpede doesn't seem to want to cut it, although I didn't try very hard either because I didn't want to break it.

I've also used chipboard coasters as covers too. No need to cut them down. You can buy them in bulk some places (check the bulk buy forum) or you can get them free at various restaurants like Chilis, TGI Fridays, etc.

hey, we all had to learn sometime and here is the best place to ask. I have a cheap solution for you and I think I heard it on here. I use cereal boxes! Or cracker boxes, etc.- the inside is plain brown and you can glue on decorative paper to the outside part. Voila!

I use lots of coasters, some purchased chipboard, some chipboard that comes with packs of designer papers, and my soy milk boxes. Since I already buy the cartons that come in a box, the box is free, right????

I cut them either with heavy duty shears or with my SU tabletop cutter (made by Tonic). Probably most guillotine cutters would work.

After reading this thread I'm ready to buy one! I'm in Australia and it won't be launched here until later this month. However my husband will be in Chicago next week. I don't think he'll have time to shop for it but I can get it sent to his office.

Can anyone recommend a store in Chicago that stocks them that I can ring and get one sent from. He's only there for 4 days so I don't think I can risk having it sent from another state in case the postal service lets me down.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Coasters are the thicker cardboard things that are used under glasses in some restaurants and probably some bars. You can also order them plain from americancoasters.com (need to call the order in as they don't list the plain ones on their site. Right now I use them to make minialbums and little boxes.

If you go to the gallery and search on coaster i believe some different projects will pop up.

Hope that helps.

Yippee! My BIA arrived today! I can't wait to use it. I had hoped it would get here in time to bind coloring books I'd assembled for DD's birthday party (which was this morning), but no such luck. I have so many project ideas if I could do them all I wouldn't be seen for a few weeks, I'm sure.

Here is some info on ordering coasters:

You'll need to call or email Tracy at American Coaster Company to order them. You have to order in increments of 1000, so 1000, 2000, 2880(a case), 3000, etc. The shipping varies with where you are in the US.

A Bind It All costs about $60. I bought mine at http://www.bonniesbest.com/bind-it-all.htm

You can also get them at some local scrapbook stores, from eclecticpaperie.com and allthatscraps.com

I guess I'm not sure what you are asking exactly. The Bind-it-all machine closes them via the setting on the machine according to the wire size. Does that answer your question?

If you're getting a kink or oval shape to your wire, you may be closing it too far. Turn the knob so that it's not so tight a squish. (technical term there) If I just follow the lines, I usually don't get a nice rounded shape. Use the little cards, and make sure they easily pull in and out of the "squish" section.

Duh! I'm sure that's what she was asking. Yup, I had some closed too far and they weren't round......not far enough and the paper falls out.

It's a tricky balance. I try not to kick things when I squish too far.

Totally lovin this thread...thanks for sharing all your info and ideas. I have a few questions about where to get inexpensive covers and inner paper. Do you use chipboard that you cut down or art board, what's the difference.

I'm trying to firgure out what's my cost to make one vs buying one to alter for $1 at a discount store. Don't get me wrong I really like the idea of making my own books and binding everything in my house that has been stamped! lol

Doing some research already this is what I've come up with so far and have found myself back at the discount stores looking at pads of paper for the inside, Sigh! So, if I want 6x6 books I will be cutting paper down or paying $2.49 for 10 sheets on-line, Wowzers! Scratch pads come in a few sizes but, if ya want lined paper looks like jr legal pads are your best bet.

The BIA and Owires are in stock at www.awalkdownmemorylane.net as well. I have various sizes and colors of Owires and even have some covers and filler pages available (although they're not uploaded to the site yet).
