Could anyone please tell me how the two compare? I'm thinking of purchasing the QK Epic, which replaced the Revolution, but I haven't heard many reviews. Has anyone tried it? I know it's compatible with most of the other name brand dies, so that's a plus. If anyone can give me some feedback, it would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone has used both the BS & the QK, which is better, pros and cons, etc. Thanks!
Well, I have both, so I can give you a pretty good review. Now mind you, my Epic 6 was one in the first wave of machines that went out to retailers in mid July. It was defective -in many ways. I'll bet I talked to QK CS three times and they sent me 2 temporary fixes, neither of which fixed the problem I had just cutting various dies. The fault lay in the thickness of the platform, the fact that it was warped, and there was a problem with the rollers. I'm expecting my Epic 6 replacement machine any day, but have been in touch with several internet friends who have received their replacement machines and have found that the only 'fix' was an acrylic substance applied over the platform. I'll wait and see how mine does - it couldn't possibly be as big a disaster as my first machine.
That said, there are many who love their Epic 6, but the reviews are inconsistent.. I LOVE my Big Shot - I'd had it awhile, but only started using it after finding the Epic 6 to be such a miserable failure. The BS is a sturdier machine - just feels more solid. It cuts all dies beautifully - embosses those folders beautifully too. Now I've ordered the new Essentials pad and the extended adapter so that I can cut borders and the Epic Gingerbread mini book set that was just released from QK. I don't know anyone who has been disappointed in their BS - it is such a work horse. HTH
Thanks so much for your replies. Now I'm leaning more towards the BS after checking out those reviews. My biggest attraction to the Epic was that it takes those 12" dies. Does the BS work with the 12" dies? If it does, I'll probably go with the BS. It's been around longer and seems to have established a great reputation. Would I need to purchase extra equipment, i.e. cutting mats, etc., to work w/the 12" dies, or does it come with all the extras needed? Thanks for your help!
Lynn - to cut the 12 in.dies in the Big Shot you will need the Sizzix Essentials platform #655808 AND the Extended Adapter #655807, as well as a pair of extended cutting mats.
Again...from personal experience - go with the Big Shot. I've received my Epic 6 replacement, and while it does cut better, I can tell that the cut mat is not going to last too long. This new improved Epic can not begin to equal the smooth performing Big Shot.
Hey just purchased the Big Shot and was wondering if someone could tell me which dies you used the most. I got mine on Ebay for a decent price. No one else had them. I tried Joanns and they are out of stock right now.
Thanks for your advice!
