How in the world do I make the impressions stand out more?!
Mine seem to barely show on the paper.
I did this:
layers: tab1, grey impressions piece, paper, silicone rubber, black impressions pad

Is this right??
It seems to not really "stand out" on my paper.

I had this problems too. What I did was add a couple extra layers of cardstock between the mats and clear plastic. I have also used a piece (1-2) layers of cardboard from a cereal box. It seems to put a little more pressure for it to work. I have heard of peaople lighting spay/misting their paper prior to embossing.

I used 2 silicone rubber mats. I guess I thought that was what was needed. The Impressions plates don't emboss as distinctly as embossing folders. They emboss more faintly like Fiskars Texture plates.

You just have to play around with the shims until you get it right. Also, if you mist your paper a little, sometimes that helps (especially on thicker cardstock)

When I first used the texture plate with my BS, I was really disappointed. I was thinking that I really wasted my money. I then read on SCS that adding shims would deepen the texture, but to remember that the texture plates aren't as defining as embossing folders. I tried the plates with the shims and it worked beautifully. I now really like the texture plates and use them often.

For impression plates, I suggest adding shims and misting your paper with water or rubbing alcohol before running it through the BS.

Remember ladies......Impression is not the same as embossing. The impression should not be as deep as the embossing. If you add a number of shims, you stand the chance of damaging your machine or breaking the impression plates. Just use the impression plates for the more subtle look they give. It's a nice look all in itself.

next embarrassing question is: Shims?? get my own thin little pieces of wood or is it something I should order/buy?

Shims are pieces of cardstock cut a very little bit smaller than the cutting mat.

Don't use wood it is too thick and may ruin your machine.
