At first, I thought it was the paper. Then I thought it was the page protector. Then I realized that every project I've used my pink ATG on (including cards and a banner) smells moldy. I used the tape that came with the pink Scotch ATG that I bought at Michael's. Has anyone else noticed this? It's been 3 weeks since I made this layout, and it still smells.
The Scotch ATG tape I have used has had this smell. I use tape from The Tape Depot now. It also has an odor, but it's more like vinegar, which disappears immediately-- and I don't find vinegar as offensive as mold.
I think it is smoother to apply, and stickier too, not to mention way cheaper which is a win-win all around!
Yes, it is the acid-free Scotch brand. I've been using tape from the Tape Depot with my other ATG, but this tape came with the pink gun. I smelled the 2 boxes of Scotch brand that I have, and they both smell. I know that other Scotch tapes have a slight chemical "tape" smell, but this really does smell like mold. I don't think I'll be buying this tape if they all smell this way.
Yes! I noticed a funky smell too, but I thought it was just the cardboard box that it came in. I'll probably use it on scrapbooks so I don't have to say, "Here's your card. Sorry it smells like horse bum."
If the packaging is printed with SOY ink, the contents may smell like mold. I haven't found a way to get rid of the smell from the product.
I was storing calendars in my trunk for a few days and the first morning, I couldn't figure out what the smell was in my car, on the third day, I opened my trunk and was inundated with the smell of mold. I called the supplier and he said he used Soy ink and that's what I was smelling. Didn't take me long to get those boxes of calendars out of the trunk of my car!
I think soy ink is considered a "green" ink, so many manufacturers have been using it regularly.

Really? I never thought of that, Jen. Interesting. I hope the smell wears off eventually. Now I'm going to have to start smelling the packaging before I buy something. Boy, am I going to get some strange looks. Thanks for passing along the info.
I just got my Pink ATG yesterday and definitely noticed a 'moldy' smell right when I opened the box. I have a box of refills that is general purpose adhesive and the refills that came with the ATG that are acid-free. The general purpose (non acid-free) doesn't smell, but the acid-free tape reeks :/
