Default To emboss Nesties...do you have to have a mat?

I just got my first Nesties set today. (Because of this site!) Do I have to use a mat to emboss?

Yup. You need either the tan embossing mat or (I've heard) you can use plumber's gasket from the hardware store. There are lots of threads to help you (with blog addy's too), just do a search for nesties.

I use one of those very thin mouse mats.

Yes, you need a mat to emboss. The squishiness of the rubber mat nudges the paper through the opening of the nesties to make the emboss outline on the paper. You first run the paper with the nestie blade up through your machine, remove the paper outside of the cut shape, turn the nestie & shape over place the rubbery mat on top (may need additional shimming so the fit is slightly tight) and then run it through your embossing machine. In my case, the Cuttlebug.
