The Best Printer for Digis?
 

Hello, I don't use digi's too often, but in the past with my dinosaur of a printed I never had a problem with the ink bleeding.

Unfortunately, last week my printer made it to the end of it's life expectancy and we purchased a new one. Now the ink is smearing into the copics!!!!

I've been told a laser printed is what I need, can anyone suggest a brand or model that works well when colouring digis with copics?

I don't think it's the printer as much as the paper you are using. Use a good quality card stock. I always spray my digi images with hairspray before coloring. That should help. I use an HP printer and mine are clear. You can also adjust your ink levels to get a bit less ink.

Drying it with a heat gun before coloring seems to help me. Try to give it sometime to set otherwise. Lasers are by far the best from what I have heard... I don't have one unfortunately.

At someone's recommendation, I purchased Krylon Workable Fixatif at Michaels in their paint department. You spray it on your paper and let it dry and your copics should not smear. I just bought it yesterday and haven't had a chance to try it. I sure hope it works. It's also supposed to be good for chalks and other inks that have a tendency to smear. I usually use Stampin Up! Whisper White if I am going to layer it.

I've found that my laser toner will flake off on some CS. I have to use my ink jet. But I do not use Copics either or digi images and Copics.

We've had great luck with our Brother HL-2140 laser printer. And it's one of the cheapest printers out there too.

Hi, Laurie -- Does your printer give you a choice on the type of black ink cartridge? My inkjet's normal black ink smears. However, I can swap it for a "Photo" ink cartridge, and that works great for both Copics and blended Prismacolor pencils. No smearing.

For some printers, both the photo ink and the normal black ink are already loaded, and it's the printer settings that tell the printer which ink to use. So, if you don't have the choice to physically swap out the black ink cartridge, you can try setting your printer for Photo Paper (or something similar).
