Default best inkpad to use with copics?

i was wondering which ink pad works best for coloring with copics? i remember reading that i shouldn't use a solvent ink, so that means no staz-on. which ink can i stamp with that won't bleed when i try to color?

I use Staz-on with very few problems, except for using the blender, then it bleeds like crazy. But I know Ellen Hutson did a series of articles on her blog about copics including which color ink to recommend. Also, Copic recommends Tsukineko Brillance. Here is the link to Ellen's ink comparison: Copic which ink?

Hope that helps!

I use Memento Onyx Black. StazOn always bleeds for me.

Memento works best. A secondary choice is Brilliance, although I would heat set it before coloring an image. Have fun!

Memento Tuxedo Black is a hands-down favorite, second to that is Brilliance but it either has to be heat-set, left overnight to dry or embossed (fine detail clear embossing powder works great).

I have to agree with the others who say Momento. I have tried lots of different inks and this one works the best for me and my Copics.

I am going to go out on a limb and disagree with Memento being the best. I did a test with Memento, Versafine, and Adirondack Pitch Black. The Memento didn't get even coverage on my stamp and looked grey, the Versafine bled when I colored over it, and the Adirondack looked awesome. Rich black color, even coverage, and no bleeding.
So my vote goes to Ranger Adirondack Pitch Black. Sorry Memento fans!!

I have used all of the inks talked about here. I have to agree with the Memento Ink lovers it is my favorite, closely followed by the Adirondack Pitch Black. I find the Memento Ink is a little crisper and darker than the Adirondack. Neither of them bleed when using watercolors. I didn't enjoy using the Brilliance as much as the other two.

I buy my Memento ink from MFT

I love the brillance with clear embossing powder, it creates a nice raised edge to help keep me in the lines.

I've had much success with Memento Tuxedo black. Before finding it, I also used Marvy Dye black ink and Adirondack Pitch Black Dye ink, though both of these required heat setting first.

Karolyn recommended this to me last week and I picked up black and brown. I had some Copics that I bought a while back and wasn't happy with using Stazon because it smeared. I tried Memento and no smears- I didn't even have to wait for it to dry! Now I need more Copics! I bought 8 more today and I have a lot on my Christmas wish list!

Another Memento lover here - I love the Black but the Brown comes in handy too.

I have tried many ink pads, because I didn't want to buy, yet another black ink pad. Stazon, and pallet NOir BOTH bled like crazy even when I heat set it. The only ink I have found that gives me great results is Momento Tuxedo Black. I was ready to give my markers up until I tried this ink.

Here is the BEST review I have seen yet on this topic. She covers every black ink I can think of and then some, plus paper choice!

HTH

ETA I am a fan of Nick Bantock Lamp Black myself.

My best success for Copics is embossing Tunesiko Black India ink (using Versamark and SU clear embossing powder). I really like the look and no suprises!

I like Momento Tuxedo Black and Adirondack (sp?) pitch black. Those two work the best for me.

Memento Onyx Black hands down. I also found that using Neenah paper has made all of the difference in the world. I had my copics for close to a year and didn't really use them as I didn't like the results. I now LOVE my copics.

All of the following work great with Copic:
  • A Muse* Black (dye)
  • Tsukineko's Memento Line* (dye): Tuxedo Black, Rich Cocoa, etc.
  • Ranger's Adirondack Line (dye): Pitch Black, Espresso, etc.)
  • Tsukineko Brilliance Line* (pigment): Graphite Black (heat set; pigment inks work extremely well with Copic, but, must be heat set or clear embossed)
  • Ranger's Nick Bantock Line (dye): Lamp Black
* = my personal preference

Some folks like Tsukineko's Versafine Onyx Black, but, while it claims to be an "instant dry" pigment ink, it really isn't/doesn't; I always have smearing issues/bad luck with that ink. Some folks really love it, tho.

HTH,
