If you are using an ink jet printer, you should heat set the ink before coloring. This is done by using your heat gun to dry the ink. I have also read that if you let them set over night, they should not bleed too.

Personally, I print my digital images on a laser printer at work and I do not have this problem and I color with Prismacolor pencils and baby oil.

I use an inkjet and let my images sit overnight...then I color with Copics...the images I pull right off of my printer will smear slightly when used with Copics...I typically print them out and color them later anyway, so this works well for me.

I spray them lightly with Krylon Preserve it, it has worked with pencils & OMS as well as watercolor pencils. I have not tried it with the copics.

If you have the choice for your inkjet, use a "photo" ink cartridge rather than the normal black ink. For my inkjet, the photo ink does not smear with either Prismacolor pencils or Copics.

For watercolors, though, heat setting did not work for my inkjet printer. I have to lightly spray those printouts with a workable matte fixative for watercoloring.

My laser printer doesn't smear at all.

Default Ink for Digi Images

I was having the same problem when I print those images with our printer at home. I heat them with heat gun and have it sit for overnight but still when I color them (Copics, watercolor pencils or even use mineral spirits) they still bleed. I tried spraying with fixatives and it work but the best is the laser printer at my working place.

So that's what I do now, print as many images on a white cardstock at work. Shhhhhh!!! I'm at work very early, most of the times I'm the 1st one so I can print all I want (huh!! gonna love those laser printers) ;)!!!
