ATG Gun opinions

I am thinking about purchasing an ATG gun 714. I was wondering where is the best place to buy one and the best place for the refills.
Does anyone have the generic version, I have seen it for half the price and was wondering if it works the same. I would love to hear what everyone thinks.

Thanks So Much

I own the ATG 714 and it works AWESOME! It's one of the best tools I've ever used! You can get it at www.framingsupplies.com and they sell the tape as well... I really haven't seen it anywhere cheaper than that place...but if someone else has let me know too...so I can buy more tape!

I purchased my 714 at framing supplies and was also buying my refills there. However, I just bought refills from tapedepot.com. Those seem to be working out just fine.

I got mine at framingsupplies.com too. I love it ! It takes a little practice at first but once you figure it out it works like a charm.

I too have the ATG 714 from Framing Supplies. It's not the cheapest place around but it's well worth the price & once you have it you'll kick yourself for not getting it sooner. :) It's one of the best purchases I've made.

I bought mine at framing supplies and I had the batch that was bad...from scotch not a prob with framing supplies..so in the mean time while 3m was trying to work out the problems, I found the tapedepot and their guns were $25.00 and the tape works out to be about 1.25 per roll.(less if you order alot!!) so I told all my card class and we placed an order for 10 guns....they are just fine. I have had no problems..just with lefties..I have since ordered 4 more and they are all happy with them. I say for the price diff. get the cheaper one and get more tape. The prices went up at thetapedepot but we just order the 144 rolls at 1 time and it comes to 1.13 per roll., so if you can find someone to split it with, it is worth the money.

I had my original ATG for about 2 years and finally the hinges on the "lid" broke, still worked but it was a pain so when I bought a new one, I purchased the generic brand from The Tape Depot...much cheaper and I love it every bit as much. Their tape is cheaper too and it is awesome as well.

Hi Everyone,

I have the ATG 700 (yellow version - has an sdapter to use 2 sizes of tape), which I also purchased from www.framingsupplies.com. Had to purchase to make 250 invitations for my son's wedding in March. Have had no problems. I also purchase tape refills from them - so far best prices with excellent customer service. If you can't remember how to change out refills, check their website for instructions.

I have both the 714 and the "generic" version. After using them both for some time now, I like the generic version better. For me, the trigger is bigger and the handle fits in my hand nicely. The 714's handle is thinner and the trigger for the tape is just big enough for one of my fingers. I think I have better control with the generic.

If you wish to see, I did a review of BOTH guns on my blog. This is the link. Scroll down to the first post to see the actual review, with pics.

I also included a link to Crop and Stick and The Tape Depot. Both had the lowest prices when I conducted the review.

Hope this helps some! I could not live without packin' some heat!

GREAT comparison, I was just getting online here to find out if I should buy the generic. I think I will. Thanks a bunch!

My pleasure! :)

Just a word of advise if I may...when you use the generic it is imperative that you get the tape roll pushed down enough to hear it click. It goes all the way flush with the back of the gun. Funny how they don't work as well when the tape is not loaded correctly! LOL It is easy, IMO, to load...just remind yourself to "click"!!

I too purchased mine from cropandstick.com! I recently purchased a box of 12 rolls of tape as well- they got the refills out pretty fast.

I **LOVE** both my 714's. Everytime I think I'm going to run out of tape and will have to go back to use my old "photo splits" or snail adhesive I start having panic attacks.

I spray painted them black and decorated them up :)

I purchased my 714 from framing supplies about 2 years ago...I have run so many rolls of tape through it I could not begin to count. I love the gun and it is still going strong. I too have started to purchase my tape refills from Tapedepot.com. The price is good and the quality of the tape is great.
blessings.

Question about the generic one from thetapedepot.com - the picture on the website shows the gun with 3 rolls of tape...when you order it for $25, do you get the 3 rolls of tape too or do I need to order tape separately? I want to make sure I like it before I order a ridiculous amount of tape.

tape depot

You do not get any tape with the $25.00 tapedepot gun

NicholeC 08-09-2009 11:49 AM

Which tape would I order with the ATG-50 (generic tapedepot gun)?

I use the 7502 it is the first choice under atg tapes. if you click on buy roll or case the little pull down arrow will let you choose 12 sub pack. I use this for all my adhesive needs....even if it isnt acid free I dont need my things to last 100 years so it works for me.

NicholeC 08-09-2009 12:11 PM

Thanks!

My3LittleMonkeys 08-09-2009 03:33 PM

I use the 7502 also. It works great! TD says it is acid-free, just so you know. :) And some people on here did a test with that pen that detects acid, and it came up acid-free there as well. Like the previous poster, I don't care about that, but I know some people do. :)

My3LittleMonkeys 08-09-2009 03:35 PM

Nichole~ Be absolutely sure you get the tape loaded correctly!! You have to get the tape roll pushed all the way down into the tab on the botton of the front spool or it will not work correctly!
