Arthritic Hands Need Help

My Mum (is in her 70's) loves to make cards however she suffers arthritis in her hands and struggles to cut and colour at her card class. She is now asking me to cut her kits. I thought for christmas it would be nice to buy her some markers (she bought a pack of kids felts to use at home - imagine the result). She can open my copic sketch but they are expensive. She tried my pro markers but couldn't get the lid off. Just wondering if anyone has worked with various markers and could help me with which ones have lids that are easier to grip and get off.:)

You might check with your SU! demo and see about the SU! markers. They don't really 'click' on, so that may help.

Yes, the SU markers are easy to uncap. I have arthritis in my hands and I can easily uncap these. Marvy markers are very hard for me and I usually have to have my DH undo them so I've been adding to my stash of SU colors.

I agree I have arthritic hands and fingers and have no problem getting the SU Markers on and off. I also love the case they come in if you buy them all at the same time.

Another vote for SU markers. The caps pop off nicely. SU are water base markers.

If you want her to have alcohol base markers I think the Bic caps come off nice. I love my Sharpies but I struggle with them. I had to do research to get the cap off the PrismaColor markers. Those Prisma's are almost impossible to remove. Stay away from those if dealing with arthritis or weak hands. The trick is to twist the cap with Prisma.

Thanks everyone...may research the bic ones a little otherwise it may have to be SU (I did like the idea of her getting alchol based ones but I think that is the reason the lids are tighter).

Not exactly on topic. I volunteered at our senior center, and found that the easiest method of stamping for arthritic hands are the peg stamps by Rubber Stamp Tapestry, and ink pads. No coloring needed. I am a senior, also. Everyone was able to make beautiful cards, and we didn't have to worry about dexterity. MI broke my wrist and arm last year, and could stll stamp with my left hand, which is not my dominent hand.
Good luck to you.
