Default Why did I buy so much Glossy paper.?

I have several packages of glossy white paper--both one and double sided.
What was I thinking? Any hints, advice, techniques to use it are welcome.

Glad you brought this up! I have a full package of this card stock too (had it for years!), and only used one sheet out of it. And I think it's time to start using more of it!

One technique I know of is Ghosting. Splitcoaststampers - Ghosting Technique Tutorial by Beate Johns

Thank you. I went right to my dungeon to try this technique. Love it. I hope others will give me ideas also. I think I will make a topic divider in my technique file so I can refer to them.

Lucky you, it's harder to find in brick and mortar stores now.
Glossy paper and Stazon ink give marvelous crisp images for photo stamps.
It works great with alcohol ink. You can create beautiful scenes, Stampscapes style
And last, but never least, here's the motherlode of ideas on a SCS thread. Have fun!!

Just thought of another technique - shaving cream technique. Splitcoaststampers - Shaving Cream Technique Tutorial by Beate Johns

The tutorial doesn't mentioned glossy card stock, but I remember my demo many years ago had us use glossy card stock for the technique and the colors turned out really vibrant.

Tim Holtz's plaid technique: I have a card featuring it here ~ WT568 Woodland Surprise by Cook22 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers ~ which includes a link to his instructions. He switched blog host at some stage, so I spent some time updating any links I had to the technique, after discovering that the earlier one was now a dud.

You probably bought a bunch because it is hard to find, especially at a good price. I have only a bit left and I'm hoarding it for special projects.

I love glossy cardstock for use with alcohol inks using a ranger blending tool. It creates a beautiful marbled effect that I've not been able to duplicate on any other paper.

I agree that it's lucky for you to have it! I searched EVERYWHERE for some a few VSNs ago (one of the challenges required it), and had ZERO luck! Photo paper does NOT work, so be very, very glad that you hoarded it!

I have a question on the glossy card stock. Are you using glossy printer paper or glossy 80 lb card stock for these applications? Or Ranger glossy card stock?

Could I use glossy printer paper? I have a ream of that stuff some where...

That is a good question. I have used photo papers that go in the computer, but not what you are describing. Hope someone out there helps clear it up.

There's a company that's always at the Mesa Stamp Shows that sells glossy cardstock. They sell it online too. Here's their website STAMPLAND Order Form . I've used it with dye inks and my stampscapes stamps to make nice scenes.

Glossy photo paper won't work properly for the alcohol ink techniques. Idk about the rest. I've tried using alcohol inks on them and they get really sticky and grab onto the fibers of the felt of the blender.

Good question. I have used photo paper that can be computer printed. Not sure that is what you are asking. Maybe someone will clarify.
I do know not go use photo or glossy papers to store clear stamps. It sticks and makes a mess.

I find it blends the best when using a brayer.

The best glossy paper IMHO is Kromekote Cover (Glossy Cardstock) which I have zealously hoarded since my Stampscape days. It is still sold online by Marco's Paper (he does bring it to shows), Amazon and other retailers. It comes in both white and black and boy, is the black Fun to play with!

I, too, find a rubber brayer works best to apply ink to glossy card stock. And it needs to be cardstock, NOT photo paper--found that out with a $15 purchase of photo paper...Use a pad with several inks together on it (don't know the term for that) and you can have a beautiful background paper--Kalidescope is one brand I use, especially tones of one color, like blue. I use Staz On or Momento to stamp on the glossy paper because it seems to "grab" better. Allow time for all ink on glossy to dry or use your heat tool.

It doesn't work with the ink, spray, smash either. I tried - and that's regular re-inkers, not alcohol. It doesn't spread. My experiments took a couple of days to dry, but I did end up using them.
Personally I have had some success using alcohol inks on photo paper, but it's definitely not as good as the glossy coated cardstock.
And...photo paper can't be used with any techniques requiring heat. Which has reminded me...

Oh - I just thought of another one for the OP to try:

Maple Leaf Glossy Card Stock ideas

Another great item to use on glossy cardstock if you have them in your stash is Smooch Inks... makes beautiful backgrounds on glossy. I would recommend not using photo glossy paper. Tried it and with the Smooch it never dried completely. Hint, use Versamark and cover the glossy and then apply the Smooch...
I also love using glossy with my alcohol inks... OH my!!! I just got an idea for a background for a card I am going to make!!!! Gotta head to my craft room!!!!

Glossy cardstock cuts like butter in the Silhouette Cameo. I make wonderful boxes and cards with it. I have many colors of this type of paper.

White glossy card stock---I use the stuff all the time for most of the techniques mentioned. It is really hard to find in packs, but I did find it at Frantic Stamper. I also use a lot of the black glossy cardstock, which is almost as difficult to get in packs. There are some techniques that look amazing on the black glossy.

I like die cutting words from glossy CS. You can color them with Copics to customize the color but white and black look awesome anytime.

Glad to hear you'll be using some of your stash! I love doing this with the inlaid die cut technique too where the word is set into a heat embossed/watercolored or vivid background. Im going to play with my glossy CS too! Lol

I have the white glossy from Marco's, and I have some colors as well. I found that black alcohol ink, and gold alcohol ink on red paper is gorgeous.

Glossy cardstock has a clay coating on it which can ruin the tips of your Copic markers.

All great techniques and the simplest is to emboss it - simple and elegant. It's also pretty when you mix the glossy die cuts over non-glossy paper solid color, patterned paper, and hand make backgrounds.

I bought in bulk so I have a lot of solid but I hoard my few sheets of textured glossy.
