Question GrANd NestabiltieS

I just bought the BIG SHOT and Grand Nestie label 4.
What do I have to buy now to cut the largest die in the set
(as it hangs off the sandwhich plates that came w/ the Big shot).
THANKS!

Hmm...I didn't think the largest Grand Nestie fit the Big Shot. I know the smaller Grand Nesties will fit. Good to know. If it's just hanging off the sandwich plate length-wise, then is it possible that you will need a Solo Platform and shim? I am assuming your BS didn't come with this platform (it's my understanding newer BS are coming with this instead of the multi-purpose platform now).

Thank you DoodahGurl!

I don't think all of the Grand Nesties sets fit... as some are wider than the
6.25" of the Big Shot. But, I'll definitly check out the widths of any sets I buy in the future.

Yes, the largest of the Grand Labels 4 set hangs off by about an inch.

I researched the SOLO PLATFORM and Shim set you recommended. I will try to get it at Hobbylobby w/ a coupon.

Am I missing an easier way here?
It appears that also I will need the
-EXTENDED CUTTING PADS(acrylic),
-and the SOLO THIN ADAPTER ,
-and the IMPRESSIONS PAD,
-and the SILICONE RUBBER PAD.
Then I can cut and emboss anything that will fit on the 6.25" X 14" platform.

Needless to say, I'm having buyers remorse now.

Did you buy the Bigshot for use only with the Grand Nesties? Or were you planning on using it with embossing folders and steel-rule dies like the Bigz? If you are only using it for Grand Nesties and other wafer thin dies (i.e. Quickutz), then the Bigshot isn't the right machine, especially if you plan on getting other Grand Nesties in the future (i.e. only about half of the circle Grand Nestie will fit the regular Bigshot).

It really just depends on what you have planned for your die cutting machine which one you should get - the Grand Calibur or the Bigshot Pro.

I don't have a Big Shot but this is what I would do on my Cuttlebug.

If the width of the die is OK but it's just too long, just do a first cut with the die and paper hanging over the end of the plates then push the die and paper up a bit so the uncut bit is within the plates and put it through again. As long as the paper is held in the die after the first cut this will work fine.

This obviously isn't a solution for the even bigger dies which are too wide for the machine but it might save you spending a fortune buying extra plates to use the dies you have already bought.

Big Shot owners - will this work?

I bought the Grand Caliber and I love it!
Best ever! I use to have their old rachet machine and hated it.....I haven't tried them in the big shot but I think the dies are way to large....
my honey bought me the GC for anniversary.....He's the MAN!

Hey DoodahGurl,
I bought the BigKick so I could cut/emboss a few of the larger dies like the Grand Nestabilities.
Also, I heard it was more powerful than my Cuttlebug, so if I want to cut/emboss metal it would work better.

I didn't plan on accumulating alot of the Grand Nesties, maybe just 4 or 5 sets max. Already, I have about 20 different Spellbinder sets( some of these only have a few things in them like the "Fancy Tags").
*The Cuttlebug handles the thick dies , like my Tim Holtz dies very well.

Since I have several Cricut machines, I can cut most shapes.
But, there's just something about that embossed edge that you get w/ the Nesties that I just love !

You are right....I should have bought the GRAND CALIBER.
Unfortunately, I ruined /scratched one of the acrylic plates on the BIG KICK, so I can't return it now.

I hope someone reads this thread, and it helps them, so they don't make the same mistake I did.

Darlene, in my opinion, the BigKick/BigShot is a GREAT machine in comparison to a Cuttlebug. It is sturdier, cuts smoother, less wobbly on the table, cuts/embosses wider dies, etc. However, if you have no need for it, then maybe you can still return it. If you purchased the machine recently, then maybe they will let you return it if you swap out the acrylic plates with new ones (you can purchase them for half price with coupons from Michaels or Joann - both have 50% off coupon today with Joann's good through to Thursday).
