Post Is everyone sick of the price of taking a vacation these days?

Airline prices are other-worldly these days. They make traveling cost too much in this day and age. So I want to save some cashola on lodging. There has to be a superior means to take vacations than with expedia or travelocity. Anyone willing to give any suggestions?

Post airline tickets

I hear you. We paid ridiculous cash last time we flew. The airlines are all going belly up. You gone to hotwire yet?

I have been looking, too. I haven't found that they are any cheaper than what I can find without them so far. I am more freaked out by the lodging prices than plane fare.

If you check Travelocity/Hotwire/Expedia or any of those others...look at their rate and then check the hotel directly and compare prices.

I have been doing alot of travelling for work lately and dealt with several airlines/hotels, and have found that by booking directly with them, it is a bit cheaper.

Also, wherever you are going, if you are able to stay at a hotel a few miles away from your destination, for example, if you are going to Disney World, stay a few miles from there...and that will save you some $$...

HTH

We had the same worry about high-priced lodging. Someone here on SCS suggested renting a condo/house. I looked into it and we're saving about $300 on our lodging! WOO HOO! We chose to rent a beach cottage versus a hotel. So, we also get our own "place", worry-free (and no-cost) parking, and the feel of "home".

Also, I found that booking the airline tickets directly thru the airline was cheaper. I just happened to catch them during a sale. Sometimes they even offer a "last-minute" booking deal to fill up the empty seats on the plane. Saves money, but hard to plan that quickly (for me, anyway). HTH!

Here is the website. http://www.vrbo.com/

Default VRBO

We have used this website three times for our vacations (Ocean City, Cape Cod, and Lake Placid). We stayed in beautiful well-kept places at a fraction of the hotel cost. www.vrbo.com is the way to go.

whats a vacation these days. I don't even get vacation pay. some of us health workers don't get them. I'm a HHA. and we just don't get them let alone even overtime. it 40 hours and that's it. Whick stinks. because you have to have a second job if you want any extra money.

my point is If I take a day off it's without pay. So the only vacation time we have right now is day trips. due to high gas prices.
