Ultra Thick Embossing Powder
Where can you buy Ultra Thick Embossing Powder? If SU doesn't carry it, where else can you buy it? I received an awesome swap card by Julie J. that uses it and it looks fantastic!
Thanks!

Michael's and Hobby Lobby both have it. I got mine at my rubber stamp store.

Thanks for your quick reply. Do you use it the same way you use regular embossing powder?

Would you believe I haven't actually used it yet?
I bought it way back when it was hard to find so I just had to get it in case I might want to use it for something.

AT my Michaels the UTEE they sell is so much less than ours. I hate to say it, but it's true. I got a 200 gram bottle for $8 at Michaels. It would take about 5 of our jars to equal what I got if they are the size I think they are. Our Mike's carries it near the stamp stuff.
Oh, and if no one has said it, it's a blast to use!!

I don't usually post when I disagree, but I hate my UTEE so much!!! It is definitely a purchase I wish I hadn't made. My suggestion would be to see if someone you know has some you can play with before you buy it. Yeah, $8 isn't bad, but it's bad when it's a wasted $8. JMHO!

UTEE is a lot thicker than reg. EP. So you cannot just BLAST your heat gun at it You kind of have to let it heat up and hold it way up over until the crystals melt enough to stick to the paper, then bring it in closer to get the glassy look you want. It is thicker and therefore needs more heat and time to get it to melt. BEWARE, UTEE is very HOT when melted, so make sure it is completely cooled down before handling it with your bare hands.

I don't have the issues MrsDiffy seems to have with the UTEE. I've always just hit it with the heat gun if I'm doing the cracked glass look. The versamark holds is just fine. However, you can use it in a melting pot if you wish.
If you are using it in bottle caps, you have to find a way to heat it from the bottom, like in an aluinum pan on the stove or in a toaster oven. Otherwise, it won't work.

BE SURE TO USE A COUPON WHEN YOU BUY IT FROM MICHALES or AC Moore! Sorry for yelling but it is an expensive little bottle and using the coupon there will save money to buy more stamps with during Sell A Bration! LOL Oh and for the record I too have the same issues as Mrs Diffey when using and so I have found those little tricks she mentioned really do work well!

Lanie -
I am so happy to hear that you liked my card I sent in for the swaps. I used up all of the Ultra Thick embossing powder - that Stampin' Up used to sell, and am now using a brand that I got at Michaels - Suze W's brand.
It took a while to get the hang of using it, but once I did - I love it!!!
For the technique that I did, I used the versamark pad and stamped the square from "The Shape of Things" stamp set, put on the UTEP, heat set it - and yes, a lot blows off the first time! Then, making sure then entire square is hot, put another coat of UTEP on, heat it, and finally a third coat. By the third coat, I was able to get it pretty well covered.
Making sure it was still warm, I stamped into the hot EP (stamp your stamp in versamark first, otherwise I have had my stamp stick to the EP).
This looks very cool with the Perfect Petals set as well (and the similar one that was a SAB two years ago- had dragonfly, sand dollar, etc...)
I hope this helps...let me know if you need better instructions, etc.

JulieJ,
Sure would like to see your card you described Can you post it? I have Nature's wonders, which is the one you were trying to remember.

Thanks everyone for the great information! I can't wait to buy some and make a card as great as Julie's!
Julie--I absolutely loved your card! The embossing powder completely makes the stamped image jump out at you. I can't wait fore everyone else in the swap to see it. I have a horrible time uploading pictures because my computer is so slow, but if you don't have a picture of your cards, I can e-mail one to you so you can post it. Let me know if you need me to. I know others would be thrilled to see it!

Sounds like different guns do different things. Or maybe I've always held mine up until it's red hot and then hit my EP. I tend to stare at it until the little coils are red hot before hitting my image. Probably why I don't have issues with losing EP or UTEE.
