ok, so I finally got around to stamping some tumbled tile coasters to actually USE in my house. I stamped them with Staz-on ink, and heat set them for a min. using my heat gun. then just to make sure they were good and set I wiped one with a wet washcloth. luckily it didn't mess up the images, but there was some ink on the wash cloth.
so, my question is this: How do you get the ink to "Stay on"?? I thought staz on was just supposed to be wonderful for tumbled tiles. what am I doing wrong? or what have I not done that I need to do? any help on this would be great. thanks

at my stamp club meeting we made these and we heat set them in our demos toaster oven...then we took them outside and sprayed them with a MATTE finish acrylic sealing spray. There are glossy sprays, but I like the MATTE finish one because you can't tell it was sprayed with anything an the tile does not become glossy looking.

Well what I have done based on info available on this wonderful site is to bake at about 350 degrees for 10 minutes. I also experimented with sharpies to color in and baked them.....I then set a sweaty glass on it to see if the color would run and it worked great!! No running ink. I am making these for christamas gifts so I wanted to make sure that everthing was set before I give them away. Hope this helps!

Michelle--I don't have that much experience with tiles, but when I made them I "primed" the tile with Lumiere first. I am not sure if this will help you or not. It was at a workshop and was my first attempt at tiles....

I thought that the great thing about these is that you don't have to seal them, so they're still absorbant (hence the reason they make such good coasters)?? what's the deal? If I have to seal it then what's the point of using an absorbant tile? anyone know?

did you just stamp with staz-on? did you let them sit for a specific period of time? do you wash them because it was when I wiped the tile with a wet wash cloth that a little ink came off.

Monica, where do you find MATTE acrylic sealer? I've tried Home Depot and Lowes and they both say all they have is glossy. Any suggestions?

Just made a bunch of these for a craft fair that I'm doing on Saturday. I used the black stazon and scrubbed the crap out of one after letting it dry for an hour or so. Nothing came off of it, so I didn't worry about doing the whole heat setting in the oven deal. Saved me the time and effort of another step. I have to say, I LOVE the look of the black stazon on the cream colored tiles! It looks like a pen and ink drawing. I couldn't bring myself to color them, as I know that it would detract from the simplicity and beauty of them. Hope everyone at the fair feels that way!
I let mine dry overnight and then color in with the sharpies. After that I heat set with my embossing gun for a minute or so. Then I leave them overnight again before I try putting anything on them. No trouble so far. :lol:

I like them black on cream too, then they will work in anyone's living space so you don't have to worry about the color coordination thing. And what is that with Walmart? I thought they would be the last one to charge more for a product in crafts when they sell it in the paing dept.
