Default Stamping on walls: lessons learned

A while back I asked how you stamp on walls & want to THANK YOU for the feedback I got! I don't recall who sent me the idea to use a felt piece for my acrylic paint, but that totally changed my view on wall stamping!

I first tried w/ classic ink----it ran right off the wall! (bathroom)

Next I used Craft Ink. The SU Craft took about a week to dry. The non su-pigment ink never dried totally (after a month!). one of my kids splashed on the wall & it ran like crazy in one area, so I tried to clean it, making a big mess. I ended up getting out baby wipes & just wiping off any non-dry stuff. I like the color that was left over, but there are various permanent streaks where we bumped it or touched it before I wiped it down.

BEST idea was using a piece of felt to put my paint on. I didn't want to dip my stamps in globs of paint, or brush on paint each time. When I tried the felt piece, I was so impressed! I was disappointed that I hadn't been patient enough to wait to get this idea!

I am now a converted wall-stamper! Acrylic is the way to go WITH a piece of felt as your pad!

I don't have pics yet, but when I do (and figure out how to post) I will! Thanks again for the great advice!

Lori

Lori,

Thanks for sharing your results. I've been wanting to try something like this out, but have hesitated because of not knowing the mechanics of it all.

Can't wait to see your stamped walls when you post them.

Over a month ago, SU posted in their forum to NEVER use SU inks of any kind on walls that they are not designed to go over paint. They suggested acrylic paints. It makes sense as there is no way for the colors to adhere to paint ~ hence why some coat their wood blocks before mounting stamp sets.

Silly question, but how exactly do you use the felt? I have a customer that wants to stamp on her walls and the exact details would be so helpful..... All the posts are just talking about stamps and felt, but not giving details.

Can someone please clarify?

You use the felt as your "stamp pad". Put the acrylic paint on the felt, and stamp your stamp on it to pick up the paint. Just like a stamp pad.

Default Going to try felt stamp pad for foam stamps

Thanks for the felt idea. I'm going to use it to apply the paint using foam stamps to my scrapbook pages too. I'll let you know how it works

I stamped my bathroom walls using DD Fancy Foliage. I used regular semi-gloss paint and my demo suggested the following method: Pour a little bit of the paint onto a styrofoam plate. Cut a piece of an old cotton t-shirt and place it over the paint on the plate. Press down gently and let the paint soak into the cotton. This worked great as an "ink pad." I will also have to post a picture. I think it came out really well! Thanks to all for sharing!

I have not actually used the felt yet but I bought some white felt and I was just going to saturate it with bleach and use it like a stamp pad!
