Hi
I have been searching for detailed instructions on how to cover a journal. Some say remove the coils others say don't...but, I don't even know where to start. Can someone post instructions please, or direct me to where i will find them. Thanks everyone. I can't believe how talented you people are... maybe one day i will be brave enough to start my own page!
have a great weekend....being creative! D

I remove the coils. After I've covered it, I go back through with and X-Acto knife, or other Hobby Knife, and re-cut the holes to put the coils back in. If you would rather take a simpler route, you could also paint it with acrylics.
Hope this helps.

If you have a journal whose holes line up with the spiral punch from SU, you can just use that to punch your holes so you don't have to take out the wire. Some journals also have wires that open in the back so they are easier to remove and put back.

Smile spiral notebook directions

Hi, I've attached some directions for covering a small notebook. This is the way I make them. Other ways probably work just as well. Hope this helps.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I love journals and love giving them as.
I will try all your suggestions and see what works best. I really appreciate it when you pro's offer up your advice, templates, techniques and time. People in small towns have little access to all this good stuff! (We don't even have a Michaels!) Thank goodness for all of you! Dianne

If you want to avoid the problem with the spirals, but still have a lined paper journal, have you have thought of using the composition books they sell in the office/school supply area? They are cheap, easy to cover in decorative or stamped papers including the spine, and hold up better than a spiral notebook IMO. I did one years ago and still have it. It's still in good shape even though I filled up the pages and really used it. Just a suggestion.

Default spiral cover

I just made covered notebooks in a workshop this past weekend. I bought the 5x7 3/4 notebooks from staples. Cut the paper 5 x 7 3/4, tore out a sheet of notebook paper made marks on the paper where the holes are. Punched out the holes, made slits to slide them through the rings and glued them down. We made beaded pens to go along with them.

Don't know if this is the type of notebook you are talking about, but it worked and they loved them.
