Question about heating used P O envelope for the design
Seems I only check this wonderful Splitcoastampers for the pretty pictures of the cards the experts make OR when I have a goofy question. But, here goes: Is there a tutorial about the method of heating the P.O. white envelopes to recycle into a webby-looking design for cards embellishment? Does anyone know what I am talking about? I just heard of it today and am wondering how it is done. I think the heat either makes the fibers come off those satiny envelopes which you may receive Priority Mail in or it makes texture and then is cut for a layer on a card. Thanks anyone. redanneinfla.
That must be about the same thing. Thanks! I knew there were some real experts out there. I will go back when more time and not tired from being arty all day and really read and watch. Thanks again. Joy in Fla. redanneinfla.
There are many tutorials out there for using Tyvek envelopes. Just a reminder that you need to purchase your own Tyvek from office supply stores or other online places, because it is illegal to melt down and make art out of the USPS envelop supplies. ;-)
I had forgotten all about this. I saw this last year on a tv scrapbook show. They stamped and colored in an image on the tyvek. Then they cut the image out and used the heat gun on it and it shriveled and twisted the image. The image was a butterfly and looked cute when they were thru.

I've never heard that. Is it somewhere on USPS site? I recycle from all sources.

So...I received one of these envelopes in the mail today...and when I read this...I thought...hmmm. I had to heat it just to do something illigal. I don't know if I'll use it on my artwork...but...I also didn't want to just throw it away. I mean...recycle recycle recycle.
It's not illegal to reuse an envelope that has been mailed to you. That is recycling.
It IS illegal to go to the post office, take the new, unused envelopes/boxes, and use those for anything other than mailing through the USPS. That is stealing.
Be cautious when heating Tyvek. The fumes are poisonous, so you need to do it outside or in a well ventilated place with a window open and fan pulling the air out.
About this time of year would be perfect, in southern California or the desert where there's no flooding, tornados, blizzards, hail, wind... LOL!
