Default The mat board is cut..... I have a question!

I've been looking at all the lovely journals in the gallery and I just can't tell if the majority of you are covering your mat board or just stamping it. I know it will work either way, I just can't decide what to do! Please help a girl out! What do you recommend?

Default Cost of a matboard journal?

Hi Everyone,
I love the matboard journals I see here and wondered if they are expensive to make.I talked to a friend and she said that the matboard was $20 a sheet.I don't how big of a sheet she meant. So I am curious about how much each completed one costs.I want to make them for gifts.
TIA,
Annemarie

Oh my word! Where is she shopping? Go to Hobby Lobby - it is under $8 a sheet there, and that sheet is HUGE! You can get lots out of that sheet!

Go to Hobby Lobby. Huge piece is only 5.99. You get several out of 1 pc. I cut mine to fit 6x6 pg protectors & got 10, I think. Anyway, it was alot.

I need to go buy some matboard :-)
I love those matboards and had no idea that it was that inexpensive.I am not that good at stamping yet and I did not want to try b/c I worried I would mess it up .But for that Price I can keep trying until I get it right.
THank you for replying you are wonderful and I have learned alot from this site and hope to post some stuff soon.
Thanks again

Next time I'm shopping at Hobby Lobby! I went to Micheals and bought a sheet of matboard and it was $13.

Thanks Jenn for the suggestion of the Fiskars Rotary cutter. It works awesome on the matbaord.

Attached you will find a price list that I came up with to make the journals/ scrapbooks so that I knew how much I had invested in supplies and could then charge accordingly for my class.

I got a huge sheet today for 3.99 at ACMoore...its on sale. I have also gotten some at the Ben Franklin craft store. I got an assorted pack of about 15 sheets (10x13) for only 3.99.

They're so much fun!

You all are lucky that have an AC Moore store! We only have Michaels here and mat board is $13 a sheet! I tried WalMart like other suggested and no luck. I went to a frame store, Aaron Bros., and they had mat board that seemed larger than Michaels for $11 a sheet. They also do the 40% off coupon. They also have the illustration board that someone else suggested for $7-8 a sheet and they are humungous! I went with that for now because it is a little bit sturdier. Thanks for all the inspiration!!!

Will most rotary trimmers work on cutting the mat board?

I have a Fiskars trimmer that has the rotary blade and it works and I have a Fiskars hand held rotary cutter, for quilting, and it works well too!

I got 100 pieces of matboard on ebay for $9.99 all precut to 5x7 size. Think gonna try to do a journal in that size. It is an assortment too, some are covered with fabrics, some are gold and most are white but the colored ones are awesome. They are all acid free too, so that was a plus when getting them.

I just want to add that I went to the framing dept. at Michael's & they charge 2.04 for a 6"x6" piece!! I thought that was ridiculous. So, today I went to Blick Art & Craft looking for something else & found a FULL aisle of mat board in every color you can imagine. The price I paid was 7.99 for a 32" x 40" piece.

Matboard is what you would use to Mat a picture within a frame. It is about a quarter inch thick or less and comes in a variety of colors...look at some framed art in your home and it is what you see in the frame...it is sold in large sheets or you can buy the smaller sheets that are cast offs.

I have heard a few ladies on here saying that Michaels will sell their scraps of matboard for really cheap. MINE DOESNT! I was so mad! They wanted like $15 for a peice of matboard. Needless to say, I am still shopping for the best price for matboard. Anyone from Dallas who can direct me to cheap matboard?
