Looking for the template for the amish folded letter
I had a copy of this and it has somehow disapear from my collection of samples. I would love to try it again - does anyone know where I can get it?
Just so you know what I am talking about it is a way to take a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper and fold it at many diferent angles so it also becomes the envelope and tuck into it self so it stays folded.
Just sitting at the computer, I pulled out a piece of paper and tried to make it. It worked! The picture of the one in vellum really shows you where the folds are. Pretty cool.
I'm not sure it saves a lot of paper though, since you use a whole piece of cardstock (I know, you can use text weight).
Still, it is very intriguing. I wouldn't spend $8 for the template though, since you can really do it without!

I did a google search for letter folds and came up w/ a few sites. The one below was a good one w/ lots of different envelope fold. Let me know what you think:
Thanks for all you help, this was something fun to do and my girls when they were younger used to do this fo notes to there friends and I haven't seen the template.
Thanks for the websites, I agree that I don,t think the template is worth the $8.00 so I guess I will be making my own, I have also used it in the past for an envelope.
I just figured it out myself as well, It took using a cardfront, looking at the vellum sample, and about 3 sheets of printer paper. Once I figured out how to line it up it wasn't hard. I suggest folding the little corner down first, then the flap to the right so that the edge is flush with the right end of that little corner . . .then position the cardfront and figure out where to fold from there.
I figured out most of this while my two year old was spinning me in cirlces in the computer chair.
Happy folding!

Don't spend the $8 look at the web site above and try it yourself.
I took a 5.5 X 4.25 card front and a peice of computer paper and afte a couple of trys I got it.
lay the paper lengthways in front of you, label the corners in your mind as
1 2
4 3
now place the CS Front down towards # 4 and then fold it up so the tip of the paper is about 1/2 inch from the top, next fold tip 2 down this should overlap the paper. Now the CS Front sholud be able to slide up and down like it is in a channel. you want to line the CS front up so that the little flap that will come over to the front of the envelope and the postage will secure is lined up at the corner of the CS front, Now fole in corners one and 3 and you should have yout template for the fold completed.
When you actual fold the letter you will want to fold corners 1, 3, 4 in firs and finish with 2
Decorate the exterion of the envelope and have fun

1. With your paper placed vertically and decorated side down, fold the top right corner down leaving approx. 1 1/2 in. margin on the left side. (make sure edges are parallel.)
2. Fold the bottom left corner up to meet the edge of the first folded corner and crease.
3.Turn note slightly so that the bottom right corner now points south. Fold the bottom corner up approx. 4 inches. (Keep side edges parallel)
4. Swing the note 180 degrees so that the remaining conrner now points south. Fold this last corner u so the top part of the point is sticking avove the top edge of your folded note and crease.
5. Flip the note over and now fold the little triangle down.
