Added Diane to the list. Your comment about knowing dogís names cracked me up. When our dog was still alive and we walked him, everyone was known by their dogís name. There was Mollyís mom and Rexís dad. I was Aussieís mom!

Absolutely! Zooey’s mom, Chester’s parents... and there’s always a Molly, isn’t there? We had a Hayley (RIP).

My wish: since you created a wonderful name list, that you might add screen names to it. I’m confused (so what’s new?) about who is who without scrolling in a couple cases.

Your wish is granted! I added a title and the artist palette icon to make it easier to find.

Wonderful, thank you - clearly we have a wc administrator. Love the artist palette. I wonder if thereís a way to add it to the thread title.

My other wish: that if someone in the class isnít keeping up with assignments, that fine - that still can post all they want. They may notice points made in the videos to chat about or want to talk about paper or paints or anything related, or just visit.

Beth

I started a new thread Online classes/tutorials and sites, what do you recommend? I'd love to see a list of online resources.

Beth, I know you had a few!

But wait, there’s more! Another video - just 10 minutes. I especially liked it around 7+ minutes. The only quibble, and it’s just an opinion: I’d been told that a cheap set can turn people off from painting, since often the brushes don’t hold their shape and can be hard to use. And sometimes the brush parts are already messed up by being smushed against their neighbor brushes. So I like Kristina’s idea of a small number of singles.

Oh, I never use the brushes that come with the inexpensive sets. They're awful. Thanks for correcting my name, Covington Crafter.

I signed up to take the class
I have suitable paper and paints, but not the smaller sizes of brushes recommended. I donít have time to order from her recommendations and have them arrive ontime and also donít have an art store like Dick Blick. Does anyone know if there are any decent brushes at either a Michaelís or Hobby Lobby?

Yay!

I do think you can get decent brushes at Michaels. They have them divided into categories - lowest end, student, on up. Just look carefully at the brush part to see that it’s shaped well and doesn’t have hairs helter skelter. I personally wouldn’t go with their very lowest end because it can be frustrating to learn with low quality tools. But you never know - you may see one that looks/feels perfect.

If you’re Amazon Prime you could also order there.

Hi Adriana, I just picked up brushes at Michaels. They have three different grades of watercolor brushes. I picked up the mid grade Grumbachers. They were $6 and $7 for the 2 and 4 rounds. If you have their app, there is a 40% off open stock brushes, limit one per coupon, a 30% off your purchase through Thursday 7/12. They now accept competitors coupons. They also have a 10% senior discount, 55 or older, 10% off your entire purchase including sale items every day. I've been shopping there for years and didn't realized they had that!

I guess I need to run to Michael's to get some brushes. Hobby Lobby really didn't have much without spending a small fortune. I have everything else but the brushes...

Ann, so happy to see you're taking the course too! I added you to the list.

I checked my brushes again and discovered a couple of them are for acrylics. So I have to pick up a couple more.

I dabble in watercolor here and there and I never knew there were different brushes for different mediums and all the different sizes and kinds of brushes. This has already been eye opening to me! LOL

Went to Michaels today and my one store didn't have all the sizes I needed so I trekked to the other Michaels and now I'm all set.

I'm anxious to get started. I was able to use the 40% off coupon on EACH brush, not just one brush so I was excited about that plus got to use my 10% SENIOR DISCOUNT for over 55. LOL

So glad everyone’s getting in gear! I checked my wc sets and have more brands than I thought, so need to pick one. I think switching around could be difficult. Or maybe one major one and one minor one.

I went to Michael's today, too. With the 40% off sale on the open stock brushes, the inventory was very low. I managed to get all the sizes, but I had to switch between levels and brands.

Also, I went to the Dollar Tree in the same center. I got a hardboard clipboard for $1. That was on the list. I am almost ready!

Good going!

The several Michaels not far from here never have brushes completely stocked either. lol

Whenever I read that only a few supplies are needed for a project or class, I know Iím in for a lot of searching and buying.

Uh oh. Is someone over-thinking and getting more anxious? lol

(Full disclosure - I bought the Artist Loft palette to use since you all said it was good and it had so many colors meaning I wouldn't have to stress about what to use. I did have the palette previously but gave it away cause I didn't like and here I bought it again just to not freak out. )

Was able to find the two brushes I needed at my local Michael’s. They had some one day sale coupons available on the app so I was able to get 50% off one brush and 30% off my entire purchase. Which meant I went ahead and got a roll of masking tape with my savings

For those of you still looking for supplies, from the Micheals website, select the store closest to you, search for the item and you can order online and pickup in store. Saves you from going to the store and coming out empty handed! Other stores have same option. It also tells you where the item is located if you want to just go to the store.

Yup, today! Time to do some clean-up in the craft room. Between the Stamp & SB Expo and a half day LSS class two days ago, things have gotten a little (aka a lot) out of control.

BTW, for anyone who hasnít spent much time on the website, the details are in the tabbed sections.

I actually have not finished all the previous ones I have bought, I tend to get side tracked by the organize your pallets and make the sample pages of things part. ( seriously I am still making a book of swatches) and I got excited about that book from what was done so far and started using it and never finished it and went back and finished any of the classes either.

so, it will be interesting to see what you all think of it. ( someday I need to just finish all the classes I have bought already)

Stacy, I'm afraid to list the number of classes I've registered for and didn't finish - or didn't begin! You are so not alone.

So is this us? I really hope no one thinks they need to keep up with the classes. Even if someone watches and doesn't paint for now, you will have something fun or interesting to ask or talk about.

Jeanette (Scrapjenny)

Debra (fifwesfan)

Sherri (cheermom)

Stefany (KSStammper)

Diane (DCinkit)

Adriana (fl_beachbum)

Ann (annsforte3)

Carla (Covington Crafter)

Beth (bjeans)

I'm cleaning up some craftroom clutter and doing a bit of organizing so I won't be distracted. Plus someone local I met at an LSS going-out-of-business sale wants to get together and play, and while she would never judge my space, I would! (We are so hard on ourselves.)

Ready... aim... paint!

Hi Betty, happy to see you join in! Today's lesson is up. I took a quick peek and will get back to it this afternoon.

Hi Betty! I’m sure Carla will add you to the list. You are officially cool. (I’m sure you were already, but this is an added level.)

Three hours of sleep last night plus roofing materials being dropped off today makes for one uninspired student. Tomorrow half the roof will be replaced, so there will be loud stomping/banging/crashing all day unless it storms. Maybe if I ask Kristina nicely she will change the dates.

But no excuses no regrets!

Beth

Oh Beth! So sorry for your aching, muddled head. That little amount of sleep leaves me feeling like I have a hangover. Hope you can regroup and finish and a quiet place. Maybe itís time for art in the park!

Good description - though since 1/2 a glass of anything makes me woozy, I haven’t had the pleasure of a real life hangover!

At 94 degrees, humid and a possible thunderstorm, plus having to wait for roofing materials, I just may stay inside. But I do have a couple errands to run if the roof guys come early enough, and sometimes driving and turning Sirius to the Beatles or classic rock channels clears my head. Of course you have to sing along.

Since today is backgrounds (?), if I do a face plant into my watercolor, that may add visual interest. The nose technique.

Beth, your face plant painting cracked me up! I've only had the experience of a hangover once and it was no fun at all. I'm a lite weight too. I remember it well enough to not repeat it even though it was some 30 years ago!!

Ladies, it is Dirty Dozen Reveal Day and there's a chat going on. It's fun to guess and pump up the excitement for the newbies. Hope you'll come join in and welcome the new Dirty Girls once they're revealed.

I added Bettycrackpot to our list. What a fun user name, I presumed you are a Betty.
