Default I want to watercolor like Guesswho! (Jerri)

Ok, this woman is amazing!!! I would love to see a tutorial on how she achieves these awesome watercoloring results!

Here is a link to her gallery; I know she is part of the Dirty Dozen, so you may have to be a fan club member to see most of her work.

Guesswho's Gallery

Jerri, please share your technique!

Wink Watercoloring Tutorial

I agree! Here's a tutorial about watercoloring with SU markers. I recently tried this technique and I liked it. It was quite a bit of work but the results are worth it. Give it a try!

Thanks Diane! I do love Julie's work as well. She's another fantastic watercoloring artist.

Wow, she is amazing, isn't she! Thanks also to Diane for posting Julie's technique! I myself can't afford copics, and am trying to stick to SU only.

Kelly~

I was thinking about getting copics but why bother when I already have SU markers that I rarely use. My markers are from before they changed colors. So instead of buying new copics, I bought individual SU markers to make my set current.

I tried Julie's tutorial last week. I would only recommend wiping the color and excess water onto a paper towel instead of between your fingers. I was coloring in a frog from Rubbernecker and my fingers turned green! I took some time but it was worth it.

Watercoloring isn't that easy for me. I think you really have to be free with your work. I tend to overwork stuff and you can tell. I stick with the prismas because I can control them better. does that make me a control freak? Your little boy is sooooo cute, Nadine!

Thank you Ann! I can hardly believe Kevin is already 8 months old & such a good baby. Well, you've definitely mastered the gamsol/prisma technique, so I wouldn't worry too much about watercoloring. I know what you mean though about overworking things; I do the same thing and gamsol/prisma is still my fave way to color, but I would love it if I could master how these lovely ladies watercolor. Kitty is also amazing!

Nadine.....I love the watercolor crayons from Stampin' Up. You can color on with darks and lights, leaving blank areas and then blend with a regular paint brush or the water brush. I use it because it has the water right there.....Another tip...if you are having trouble blending just right use watercolor paper.....I buy it by the pad and cut it in the size I want. ( 40lb...cold press ) It is fabulous and is so rich looking. Another way I find easier than using the markers, which I have is using a blender pen and our ink pads....I hope this helps.......Billye

Thanks for the tips! You know, I have the WWC and have hardly ever used them! I really should take them out and dust them off and give them a try.

I really love how SweetMissDaisy watercolors too. She gets such great deep color. But do the same as I have told people about the Prisma/gamsol......look at the work in the galleries of the people you love and try to duplicate it....you'll eventually find your own style.....now to put that into practice myself!

Jerri, please share your technique!
Hi Nadine, I'm sorry it has taken me this long to answer. I was away this past weekend and I don't go into the forums that often. Please PM me if you ever want to contact me. I'm gearing up for more creations for the next gallery opening. The water colors take quite a while and a lot of patience. If you are a fan club member and saw my work, you'll see what supplies I used for the cards/projects. The inspiration piece I did actually took me well over 8 hours. I wish I could give you one-on-one water coloring, but I guess that 's not practical as I'm in Florida. The only thing I can tell you is that I pretty much do exactly what Julie teaches in her tutorial. I wasn't able to watercolor overnight, I've been doing it for a few years. It just takes time and practice (lots of practice). Stamp out some images and just start playing using Julie's guidelines. Before you know it, you'll develop a technique that works for you. I use 140 lb watercolor paper (cold pressed). I like the Straithmore or Canson brands. They are available at Michael's or JoAnn's.

I have a few watercolor cards in my gallery. If you're a fan club member, you'll be able to see everything I do directly in my gallery. If you're not a fan club member, you'll only be able to see the uploads I do that are not for the Fan Club.

I love using Prismas with Gamsol as well and have cards in my gallery using that technique. And yes, I agree that you do have more control with Prisma's, but I like the uncontrolled look as well. I also have cards using SU's water color crayons; however, you don't get the intensity in color with the crayons that you do with reinkers and markers. Anna Wight (sweetmissdaisy) uses reinkers in her work; she is so awesome! Her work is just incredible, she's a true artist, I just dabble.

Thank you so much for your very kind comments. Jerri

I have to agree with Jerri ( and I'm proud to say I get to stare at one of her cards in my HOME!!!) that it is a lot of work to watercolor. Patience is a virtue, and it is s worth it in the end!! I will also say that I have used Copics, and it does take a lot of work to get them to look that way, too. I just like the price point of the SU markers a lot more...heheh

Hi Nadine, I truly have to subscribe to this thread. I've been working on the upcoming gallery and haven't been in the forums for quite a few days as you can see. I see you live in Naples; I love Naples, it's so beautiful. I have a place on Palm Island, barrier island right above Boca Grande, that I go to on the weekends. That's about as close to Naples as I get. I'm not sure if you were one of the girls asking about the Me and Carrie Lou stamps, but wanted to let you know that I will be getting the catalogue this week and if there are any stamps that you're interested in I can give you the item numbers. I am not affiliated in any way with Violette's (where I purchase the stamps), but I endorse this shop as the ladies are all so wonderful there and it's a great place to shop as well. Please feel free to PM me if you're interested in them. Jerri

Thanks Jerri, yes I am interested in their stamps. I googled for quite a while looking for an online source, but had very little luck. Is there a place to see their images? The ones I've seen in your gallery are so nice!

Hi Nadine, yay, I've subscribed to the thread! I first saw the Me and Carrie Lou Stamps a little over a year ago and fell absolutely in love with them. The designer is an artist who fell in love with stamping and started this line back in the late 90's/early 2000's. She designed for a few years and then stopped and went off to other ventures. Sandi McDonald, the owner of Violette's is a friend of the artist and continues to sell her stamps, having them made locally in Lakeland. The catalog is over 130 pages and Sandi doesn't have it on line since she's not an internet store. She's having a copy of the catalog made for me so that I will be able to give item numbers to those requesting the stamps after they've seen my work. If you're a Fan Club member, you'll want to check out the new gallery on March 15.

I will also say that I have used Copics, and it does take a lot of work to get them to look that way, too. I just like the price point of the SU markers a lot more...heheh
Aw shucks Julie, that is so sweet of you! You've kept my card all this time? Wow, that makes me feel so happy that you liked it that much. I'm with you on the Copic issue; I have SU, Tombow, and Marvy markers and didn't feel justified in purchasing yet more. My son has alcohol markers (he's an artist and used to do Manga). I tried them, but for me, it felt more like coloring than painting.

Oooh, methinks I'll have to take a trip to Violette's one of these days. I'll definitely be checking out the Fan Club Gallery on March 15. I never miss it! So many inspiring artists!!

Ladies, I just wanted to post to let you know I now have the Me & Carrie Lou catalog. If you desire any of the stamps, please feel free to PM me and let me know which ones and I'll be happy to give you the items numbers as well as Violette's telephone number.
