Post How do SCS stamper make the scalloped edget I see so often on cards?

HI! I hope someone can answer this.

As I look through galleries, I often come across a scalloped edge on top of many cards . It's too perfect to be just scalloped fiskers sicsors ( sp sorry)
so can someone tell me how one does it?? Is it a puch that is used repeatedly - or is it cuttlebug ( I don't have one yet... )

If you dont know what I mean , I am sure I have saved on to favorites and if you pm I will send you a link to one of my favorites.

Often people have two layers of the scalloping in two different colours and it's absolutely perfect. Is it cuttle bug then ?

Thanks for answering!

Deborah

Here's Julia S's version of making a scallop edge using the slit punch:

http://bellepapier.blogs.splitcoasts...hort-tutorial/

here's a way to do it with the corner rounder punch: http://beate.blogs.splitcoaststamper...callop-border/

And here's reneejul1 using the corner rounder punch to make a scallop circle:

Hope that helps!

Thanks for asking the question and for the answer. I have tried so hard with the scissors and it never came out right. Now I know why!!!

Thanks labullard for the answer! I too wondered about scissors - glad I didn't run out and buy them. I knew that the scallops looked to perfect for scissors - at least when I am at the " controls!"

Happy Canada Day!

Default Corner Rounder to make scalloped edge

Yikes! I must be doing something wrong here. I removed the guard from my corner rounder and applied the punch upside down to the edge of my paper and I am coming out with something that looks like it wants to be a scalloped edge, but there is paper left between each scallop. (and I have varied the space between each punch I made in the paper.) I made the sure the paper was in the punch as far as it would go, too. Anyone have some advice for me? I would appreciate it! Thank you!

It's been a while since I did this, so I just tried it again. Besides keeping the punch pushed in all the way and straight, be sure you position the left side of the new "punch" over the slightest hint of the previous punch (you should see it in the opening). Practice on a scrap piece of scrap cardstock. Good luck!

Linda,

As soon as I posted my question, DH entered the room and I asked him if he could figure it out. He did, right off the rip! Naturally! LOL! I practiced again, and yes, by almost overlapping each punch it does come out right. Thanks so much for your reply!

Giga makes punches with scalloped edges - round, oval and square shapes. They're pretty popular, which means most stores sell out as soon as the stock comes in. I ordered mine online, and it still took almost two months to get them.

Thanks Linda for mentioning my tutoria. Remember that if it doesn't work out perfectly at the end, just put an embellsihment like a bow, or something over it to hide it!!

I have the old fashioned square corner rounder. Looks like a box with the punch on top. Can you do scallops with this?

If you can see it from the bottom and line it up, I'm sure you could make it work. Just give it a try, it never hurts

It won't line up. The paper will only go in if it's the corner of the paper, and I cannot get the back off.

Thanks for these links. I was wondering how it worked with the corner rounder. I don't yet have one and didn't realize you could take the guard off. I guess the CM one will "need" to get replaced with SU. Need to anyway if I want to use it in workshops.

If you're putting the scallops between layers of card, you could also just punch circles with a 1/2 inch punch and adhere them under one of the layers. (This was done in the new SU catalog) I tried this with little circles lined up under an oval I cut out with the CM oval cutter, and it's adorable and lots easier than I thought. Works for me because I haven't yet caved to get the oval scalloped punches, I just have the circle ones.

I ordered the slit punch and I can't wait to get it! Has anyone used it to make scallops on a circle or oval, or do you have to have the corner rounder for that one? (I only have the new CM corner rounder, and I can't do scallops with it...) Can't wait to get my split punch and play with it! TIA!

Didn't read much further so don't know if you got your answer or not. If you don't have a removeable guard on your punch then it won't work. You can't take it apart.....it will fall to pieces.

Sometimes I use my circle punch to make scalloped edging. Like here on this card.

Mittens I cut the circles in half then placed them in a row on the back of strip of paper with tape.

And on this card I used my Slit Punch from SU..

Holiday Swap Card I placed the slit punch up against the edge of the paper and started punching by moving the punch along the paper. And then taped it on the card.

Same way this one too.

Happy Birth -hay to you
