A friend contacted me with a question on how to personalize on a ceramic-like coffee cup. She wants to add writing to a cup. She thought stamping would work but because the cup is curved, it's a problem. She wants it permanent...washable. Someone told her sharpies would eventually wash off and I agree. Does anyone know of a product sold in craft stores that might work? TIA.
I know that there are specialty paints for ceramic surfaces, but I can't for the life of me think of the name. Perhaps you could hit the nearest chain craft sore (Hobby Lobby, Michael's) and ask there.
Because the ceramic is already glazed, I would think you would have to reseal anything you use, whether it be stamp ink or sharpies....wouldn't you?
I know the paint I've seen can be used on glazed surfaces (different than the stuff used for plain, white ceramics that was so popular years ago) and just has to be baked to set.
Isn't that always how it works?! :mrgreen: My hubby has joked that I'm no longer allowed to browse at the craft store, as I always seem to find some fun product and get new ideas (which I admit can get costly...)
If she is seeing some of the stuff here on SCS. I think those are all rub ons. With the rub ons the mug then has to be hand washed.
At the craft store they sell a stuff called satin etch I Know that can be used on glass. I don't know about ceramic though.
I know at the hardware stuff they sell spray sealent. I have just used that for coasters though. I don't know about a mug.

There are four brands of paint suitable for glass surfaces (including ceramic-like): DecoArt; Delta; Pebeo; Plaid. Pebeo is available in tubes with a nozzle tip for writing. Michaels, Hobby Lobby and AC Moore have them (not all stores stock every brand). Heat setting makes them permanent, although hand washing is recommended.
