Default help with Silhouette

PLEASE I need help in cutting word text using the silhouette. I am using Stampinup cardstock set the cut settings for double cut and heavy cardstock and ended up with a big mess - jagged places all over where the blade touched down and the second cut was off so I had cuts all over the place.

Thanks
Phyllis

Did you change the blade cap for heavier cardstock?

Did you try cutting with the blade housing facing 3:00 position. If that does not work try 6:00. It should cut out Stampin Up cardstock with a double pass. I don't use SU but that is around the 80lb weight, if I am thinking correctly. I heard some say SU cuts on Silhouette like a dream while others want to throw the Silhouette out the door. I know Cricut doesn't like SU cardstock either.

Is your area humid or dry? The conditions can change how cardstock cuts with electronic cutters.

yes I am using the pink(red) blade and it is about 1 yr old but I have not used abused it.....it is still sharp. by blade housing in the 3:00 are you talking about that little ridge? it s/b in the 3:00 position? I will check and adjust if I'm not set like this. Actually, one page I tried to cut was not SU paper and it was a mess also. And have you ever had a problem with setting for double cut and having the cut be off the mark by about 1/4 in. what a mess! and waste of paper and time. I am a bit frustrated.

I've had this happen with my Craft Robo lately - but only with the new RoboMaster v5.3. I've never had a problem with v5.1 so that is what I use most of the time. The images you can buy from Silhouette cut very nicely in the new software, but for stuff I trace or design myself, I use v5.1. Haven't tried to cut with the Silhouette Studio software yet.

Phyllis,

Your right I am talking about the little ridge on the housing. It's supposed to face the 3:00 or 6:00 position. I usually have mine set at 6.

No, my cuts are always dot on. I use Inkscape & old Robo to cut my projects. I have heard there are problems in the new Silhouette Studio with this. Are you using the newest version of Studio? I do have the new version but I am still learning it and have not really cut with it.

The people at customer service for Silhouette do not recommend using Stampin Up cardstock with the machine. This is due to the high fiber content in Stampin Up's awesome cardstock, it is simply to dense to cut. So you might want to try another cardstock for your project. Good luck!

Hi DeeAnn,

Can I ask what type of cardstock you use with the Silhouette? I only have PTI and SU cardstock but wanted to know what other brands would be good to use;)

I've had my machine for over 3 years and I cut SU cardstock all the time without any problem. The climate will have big influence on how well your cardstock cuts. You could also try installing the older version 5.1 of Robomaster to see if that alleviates the problem.

I honestly don't order cardstock. Whoops! I know some of the members here are gasping, lol. I really like the Recollections cardstock from Michael's. It cuts perfectly. I know it's not high end and in the cheaper range for cardstock.

I also have cut Georgia Pacific cardstock consistently with my Silhouette. That runs in the 110lb weight. I never have used a double or triple pass with it. You can find GP at WalMart in the stationery department.

I have also used several different brands of "art" paper found in the art department at our craft stores like Bristol. I try to make sure it's thinner paper before cutting. I wouldn't cut something like Bristol Vellum in the Silhouette.

I mainly use my Silhouette for Print & Cut. I buy a lot of white cardstock.

I live in the Ozarks so it's very humid here. I hope that helps.

I recently bought the Silhouette and have put it back in the box as I too have hard times trying to cut SU cardstock. I contacted support, and as Bitter White said, they don't suggest cutting it. I was thoroughly disappointed, but now jealous of Cat_Woman!
