Default HELP--Cuttlebug embossing folder?

I am trying to emboss using the Christmas tree folder. This is the first time I've used it. When I run it thru my Revolution it is wrinkling the paper at the base of the tree. This hasn't happened before with their other folders so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Wisdom please!

TIA,
Ginger

Well, here are my thoughts: Make sure your paper "fits" the folder - not hanging out at the bottom. Or, is your paper too thin? (probably not) or - are you cranking it forward and then backward? If you are, just try making one pass. Do you have a nice snug sandwich, or could your paper be shifting around as it goes through?

I haven't switched paper so maybe that is the reason. I'm trying to match what I'm doing.

I have cut/trimmed the paper to be the size of the folder. I did try only going thru the roller once, it still wrinkled.

After I'm done with these cards I'll switch the paper and see what happens. I'm bummed because eventually I wanted to make my Christmas cards from this folder.

Thanks much for your thoughts!

Default Cuttleug folders and Revolution

I use my Revolution with my Cuttlebug folders, I have had pretty good success. I "googled" and found a You Tube video where someone demonstrated how they used the folders in the Revolution, it was very helpful. I put the paper in the folder, place the folder on the middle of the tray, and on top I put a sticky mat with a paper shim. I have to run it through twice as the sticky mat only covers half of the folder, I shift the sticky mat once I roll the sandwich through once. I have had very good results.

I haven't tried it with a sticky mat. I use the flexible mat from Spellbinders. I'll try the sticky mat and see how well that works. Up until now I haven't had a problem.

Thanks much for the tips!

Hi Ginger

If it's any consolation this is exactly what happened with me too using that particular folder. It's never happened with any other folder i've used either.

I experimented with different white cardstock I had till I found one that didn't crease as much but I never did get it completely crease free there was still a tiny crease just under the base of the tree.

I'm sure no one else even noticed, it's just that we're so critical of our own work.

To get it so it didn't crease did you use a heavy weight cs? That's the only thing I haven't had a chance to try yet.

Thanks much,
Ginger

Hi Ginger: I had the same problem with this embossing folder. I wanted to make them so badly for last Christmas but I couldn't remove that wrinkle and I wasn't pleased with that imperfection. I'll try some of these suggestions listed. Good Luck.

No it wasn't the heavy card as I found that the heavier the cardstock, the more it creased.
What I did in the end was use a lighter cardstock then changed the sandwich (I use a BS) took the platform one layer out and built the sandwich up slightly with shims till it was slightly under the height it would have been with the platform layer and although the impression wasn't quite as deep, the crease wasn't as noticeable.
As I said it wasn't perfect but was the best result I could get.

Also I cut off just under the tree base and then matt and layered as required to fit each card size

hth

Thanks for the info. The other thought that has crossed my mind was to just use a rolling pin on it!

I still haven't had a chance to play with it anymore, maybe tomorrow! I'm just bummed because I purchased it to make my Christmas cards for this year. Silly me thought it would be a quick and easy project! Ahhhh--it never is....

Thanks again,
Ginger

Default I have a solution

my friend borrowed mine and it was doing the same thing. Run it thru the cuttlebug sideways. It will not wrinkle.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong - that particular folder does the same thing when I use it. Using the folder sideways like mentioned above does help. Another thing to try: mist the paper lightly with some water before closing the folder and running it thru the machine. The mist loosens up the paper fibers a bit and the paper should form to the folder better.

It works for me on my Big Shot if I use the following:

Multi-purpose platform with no tabs
Spellbinder Wizard silicone pad (Sizzix is too thin)
Tape two pieces of cereal box cardboard that are smaller than the folder itself, to each side of the folder.
Clear cutting plate

Hello, my Christmas Tree folder gave me wrinkles at the bottom of the tree too, so I just turned the folder round and put the bottom through first and it was fine. HTH.

Had the same problem- I think its just because the design is very wide then narrows suddenly, although I did use it with vellum, and had no problem, it was only cardstock or paper. I also found it goes through ok sideways, have to try bottom first now, lol.

Thanks ladies! I did not use this for my Christmas card this year as I still can't get the dang thing not to wrinkle.

HOWEVER, Santa is bringing me a BS. Once I get that I'll try it again. Please share the layers to use with the BS.

Thanks again,
Ginger
