Thumbs up

I just recieved one of these tools as a gift from my sister. I have been looking for ideas also. I did find a nice thread about it on the DIYnet site. Some good tips and ideas there. Also, the company site http://www.walnuthollow.com/projectinstructions.htm has some good ideas. I am anxious to play with mine this weekend. I did a little playing last night. I see there is a special mat you can get to use it with. I thiink I will have to look into that.

My hubby bought me a wood burning tool (similar, but not the same to your tool) with different tips years ago. I never used it until this year when I used it to burn some foam to make it look like faux wood. I loved the result.

I've been using it for over a year now to cut out my stamps. Use the hot knife - X acto blade - It does a nice professional job, as long as you are careful and the blade is sharp. Use a $$ store green cutting mat under it, keep the blade perpendicular to the stamp and push the rubber through the hot blade, vs pulling the blade through the rubber.
I haven't yet even come close to cutting my fingers (in case some of you are thinking LOL) but the danged thing does get hot...so be careful with it!

Question green mat??

When refering to the $$ store green cutting mat, I have not seen one of these. Just what are they. Are you saying to use this instead of the expensive cutting mat the company sells? Or do you just mean to use this when you are cutting stamps? Good idea by the way to use it to cut stamps! Too bad I just cut about 5 sets I got for Christmas with household scissors! ;)

$$ means dollar store! Just about every dollar store that we have around here sells small - 6X8" or so - green cutting mats - i use them for cutting stamps, setting eyelets etc because they can be tossed when they get cut up etc. I do have my very expensive green cutting mat that I use for sewing on my table, but I would never use it for pounding or cutting stamps.
