Default Cool Cuttlebug Technique: Inking the Negative

I don't know if anyone has tried this yet but thought I'd share my discovery.

When I saw the cuttlebug folders, I thought that since it was plastic I could use my chalk inks to create a colored background leaving the embossed part the color of the cardstock!
Here’s what it looks like.

Isn’t that neat?! It’s really simple to do but here’s some pics to help you figure it out.
1. Apply chalk ink to the negative side of your embossing folder.

2. Fold your cardstock inside of the embossing folder and run it through your cuttlebug.

3. Open the folder and carefully remove the cardstock. I would recommend cleaning your folder RIGHT AWAY to avoid staining it. So far I haven’t had any staining if I clean it up real fast.
4. Finished cardstock.

Hope you all find this useful!

If your a TJNL subscriber this is in the October newsletter (www.patstamps.com), along with some variations and a few other great techniques to use with your CB embossing folders. It was submitted to the newsletter by Nancie Wood.

Last week I used my brilliance inks on both sides of the folder...liked those effects...I also got a cool looking bG by inking one side of the folder, putting the CS on it and just rubbing the CS with my fingers....
Thanks for taking the time with your tutorial...now just have to try the dye inks!...judy

I checked out the patstamps site to see what this is all about - just opened my cuttlebug for the first time and am trying to find 30 inches of space anywhere around here to use it!!! And now I am looking at fancy techniques when I haven't even tried it yet. Wee Ha think I am going to be addicted. Actually, the first time I saw a card in the gallery it had the swirls in it and I was addicted then - just took time to get the bug!!

the link to patstamps just left me in cyber limbo with a blank screen...maybe it expired?

I tried this and liked the effect. On vellum, I ink the reverse side of the embossing and it shows through though in a softer form and without the mess of cleaning my folder.

I got a little bit of staining when I used pigment inks. The dye inks wash right off

You can rinse the dye inks off with water. I used a baby wipe to clean off the pigment ink.

I got a chance to try this and it is AWESOME! There are some sets of smaller Cuttlebug embossing folders that are either round or square frames and the jumbo scalloped Marvy round punch just fits the round ones. I'm so glad I took the next week on vacation. I used them in a Sizzix sidekick and shim it with a couple of layers of cardstock to be sure the ink is transferred.
