chipboard snowflakes. Help!

I bought some grey chipboard snowflakes and painted them first with glue and then dipped them into Tim Holtz's clear rock candy glitter which looks white in the jar. But they don't look white enough for my liking. They are sparkly but look quite dark grey which was not the white look I was wanting.

Can anyone suggest what to try next.

Seems to me that you will need to paint the grey chipboard white if you want the finished snowflake to look white under the glitter. Here is a link about painting chipboard. You can use acrylic craft paint. I would be very sure it is dry before attempting to apply the glue and glitter.

I second Bugga's idea. You can also use Gesso to prime your chipboard pieces. Then add a layer of white acrylic paint. Then add the glitter.

to try to save the ones already done. could you use a mist? tattered angles ,other brands?

I did not have any acrylic paint or gesso. I had the idea to use my Palette Ink pad in New Canvas (which is white). I let it dry and added glue and dipped in the glitter and it looked so much better...

I am not going to throw out the other ones. Was thinking I could use them if I do a silver and grey and white card perhaps. Don't have tattered angels either. I just bought a Wink of Stella brush in white that is shimmery so I may try to paint them with that.

Throw something out? (shocked) Never! I'm sure you can find a use for the silver/grey ones you've already made.

just an update on my snowflakes........I bought a bottle of Tim Holtz's Distress paint in picket fence and dabbed it on the ones that came out too gray and even though they already had glitter on them, I was able to make them look white by adding the glitter again. They are just more "bumpy looking". They look quite rustic and vintagy kind of. So I am happy that I can use them.

So glad it worked out for you. There's nothing more frustrating than to have a picture in your mind of how something will look - and have it turn out different.

You could also use an opaque glitter next time.
