Default Cards from leftovers.

First off, this isn't my idea, I got it from a couple of Jennifer McGuire videos. Cutting cardstock scraps into strips to make card panels.

But, it's a fantastic way to use up some of those scraps we all end up finding ourselves with. Jennifers Videos are [ame="http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEmOPEQCpeo"]HERE[/ame] and ,

Ever since I merged my scraps with my sheets of CS and pushed myself to use those scraps this sort of thing has become a regular habit. I even use my homemade scraps now.

Honestly I have always preferred using a strip of coordinating paper instead of ribbon on my cards. I've been stamping a really long time though and 'back when' we all did it that way.

I love making backgrounds with strips of scrap paper. There's something very relaxing about it.

No pressure, just glue down the scraps and then cut off the ends.

Usually I just start with a strip, glue it down the middle diagonally and then fill in the rest of the piece.

Sometimes I surprise myself with the colors and patterns of my scraps that go together! LOL!

I usually start with my scraps when making cards, because I hate cutting into my beautiful pieces of paper if I don't have to.

I have done this a while ago but with glue. Now I have sticky paper, looks like this will be much easier to do now!

Thanks for posting

Shaz those are REALLY nice!

I have been doing that for years although only across the whole card face, not in shapes like that (and now I want to!) ...I like doing it so much that once I get started, I may keep going and have to cut new paper LOL. I think it might be one of the few times I already knew one before I saw it there.

I just run some DS tape across an A2 card and get going. As long as all the edges are done you are good w tape strips in the other direction.

I just created a lot of solid scraps so I will be thinking about that-but first I want to do quilt dies...

Lol at that wavejumper- because I sat and cut a load of new strips last night! I bought some pads of pearl papers- fairly thick paper- a few years ago, and up till now had really only used them for punching flowers from. So I cut a few sheets into strips, and I have a plan or two for using them. I think as long as I either use paper or card, not mix them, it should work out fine.

I have strip pieced with cardstock for years, waiting for the right time to use those backgrounds! It reminded me of quilting days. Now that I have a collection of dies, the possibilities are endless! Thanks for sharing the cards made.

Some of my favorite backgrounds have been made from strips I piled together while I was cleaning my desk. There have been some really unexpected color combinations too! I like to use label sheets to create my backgrounds - I have the 1/2 sheet labels for my business, and I keep a stack of 'messed up' ones just for these kinds of backgrounds.

Use label sheets as well Dina....started that when I began making the quilted looking backgrounds from a tutorial posted last December. the labels hold well, allow entire strip to be adhered and then I can use dies like the top note and cut them if I want....

My SU demo has had us do quilt cards using 1 inch squares punched from scrap dsp. That was cool. Also made a card from 1 inch circles, punched from dsp, and then run through the Big Shot in an embossing folder. Also pretty nifty. In fact, I had to go find myself a used 1 inch square punch because I liked the idea of using up old scraps!

The cards are beautiful. It makes me want to raid my stash. Which is a good thing. I get overwhelmed sometimes by my scrap bin. I use a lot of patterned paper so I have tons of scraps. I wonder how they would look using the stripe technique. I think I may have to try and see.
