Beautiful card and thank you for the tutorial! Check out the "Karen B Barber" gallery. I think she is the one who originally did the Black Magic Technique.

Default Question

This is awesome!!! Thanks for sharing your tutorial. I've seen examples of this technique before but your directions are very clear and easy to follow.

But I was wondering if any other coloring medium could be used in place of the pure color pencils? Would watercolor crayons work? Or watercolor pencils? I don't have the pure color pencils and would really love to try this technique ASAP.

Has anyone tried it with something else?

Thanks for all the sharing ladies! Love this site!!!

I HAVE used the Watercolor pencils with success, until a humid day came along! Then the white gel pen picked up the color of the pencil I colored with. Sharon Rogers said she has used the Watercolor Crayons successfully too. I don't have those yet, but I have been wanting to get them! I hope humidity doesn't effect them too, or how will I demo this technique?!

Red face Black Magic Technique

What are pure colored pencils used in the Black Magie Technique? I've never heard of them. Thanks for your help. I love the technique.

They are colored pencils that are all color, no wood surrounding the color. They go on really smooth and vibrant. They are retiring though! Just after I got them too! I have used watercolor pencils and they work well if the humidity isn't too high. I live in Minnesota, and it's summer, so it's humid alot right now LOL! SharonRogers said she has used the Water COlor Wonder crayons successfully too.

There are pencils out there similar to the Pure Colour pencils SU! is retiring. What you essentially need are woodless coloured pencils. I bought a 24 pack of Koh-I-Noor pencils at M's with a coupon. I've tried the black & white magic technique with them and had great results.

To those who don't have Microsoft word, try going to this website and download this and then you should be able to view these documents in word format.
